Paperback Striker Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 Hello, I'll get straight to it - I'm here for some help, well more opinion really. I'm in the process of putting together a custom save file for Pro Evolution Soccer. For those of you who know what that means - great, for those that don't... doesn't really matter. I'm looking to put together "all-time" teams for a whole host of famous clubs and I've got as far as... er A (Which is where this post comes in). No not really, I've got numerous lists of players for most teams, but I'm now looking to bang these lists into 20 man squads. Obviously I'm more familiar with some teams than others, so rather than pick the final selections myself I thought I'd try and seek guidance from supporters of sides I'm not so familiar. Get the real picture on past heroes and cult favourites over the traditional line. So what I'm look for in Aberdeen's case is two twenty man squads - Emphasise being that these are squads and not just a list of the 20 best players. Rather than doing straight out 'all-time' teams I'm focusing on players from the last 30 years (so last three decades), if I've got time I'll then throw in 'classic' teams comprised of players from the year dot upto and including the 70s. Just to proof I've allready done some leg-work here's the two squads I've got so far: 80s - Today Theo Snelders Jim Leighton Brian Irvine Alex McLeish Willie Miller Russell Anderson Stewart McKimmie Robert Connor Jim Bett Eion Jess Neale Cooper Neil Simpson Hicham Zerouali (0) Darren Mackie Hans Gillhaus Darren Mackie Eric Black Brian Grant John Hewitt Scott Booth 70s and Before: Fred Martin Ally Shewan Drew Jarvie Henning Boel Alec Young Bobby Clark Martin Buchan Willie Mills Matt Armstrong Willie Cooper Stuart Kennedy Paddy Buckley Jock Hume Jimmy Mitchell Jack Hather Jack Allister Graham Leggat George Thomson George Hamilton Don Emery I'm sure I'll have missed out a fan favourite here and there, or included someone likely to see me scorned. If so, please let me know, that's the whole reason for this thread. Lastly, just to say any help is much appreciated. Thank you allready to anyone who has made it to the bottom of this message. I can't offer much in return, save for the fact I'll make the file available for download when it's complete. Quote
dickofthedons Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 I'm sure I'll have missed out a fan favourite here and there, or included someone likely to see me scorned. Darren Mackie Thats the one that will get you scorned Theres currently a thread with the team of the last 20 years that has been/currently is being voted for, that might help. I dont have the link but it must be on the first page or two - theres a few based on different positions Quote
maverick sheep Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 Darren Mackie Hans Gillhaus Darren Mackie 2 Darren Mackies, there's only 2 Darren Mackies, 2 Darren Maaaaackies, there's only 2 Darren Maaaaackies...! Quote
El Padre™ Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 Got have Joe Harper in the 70s squad surely? Quote

I dont have the link but it must be on the first page or two - theres a few based on different positions Here is the link: http://www.donstalk.co.uk/messageboard/index.php?topic=10582.0 As dotd says that is our pick of players from the last 20 years which may be of use to you. Im sure we could provide you with suggestions for a late 70s-end of the 80s team too. edit* Just realised you need a squad. First team Gk - Theo Snelders LB - Davie Robertson CB - Russell Anderson CB - Alex McLeish RB - Stuart McKimmie LM - Paul Mason CM - Eoin Jess CM - Jim Bett RM - Lee Richardson ST - Duncan Shearer ST - Hans Gillhaus -------- That leaves you with 9 players. Goalkeeper - Jim Leighton Wing backs (in voting order) - Kevin McNaughton, Michael Hart Centre backs (in voting order) - Willie Miller, Derek Whyte Midfield (in voting order) - Craig Hignett, Scott Severin, Roberto Bisconti, Strikers (in voting order) - Arild Stavrum, Charlie Nicholas Obviously that makes a squad of 21 not 20 as you asked, dunno if that is a problem? Paperback Striker Posted February 27, 2010 Author Report Posted February 27, 2010 Cheers for the feedback. I did have a quick look for similar threads, but I must have missed it. I'll look again. I can only say "Doh!" in regards to the TWO Darren Mackie's... or perhaps even including based on dickofthedons response. I thought I read somewhere he was some kind of record goalscorer, but then a record of around 60 goals in 300 games doesn't exactly back that up. So then... Mackie x 2 out of the 80s-present team, anyone care to name two replacements? McGhee, Mason, Weir. It doesn't have to be striker for striker. Could probably do with some more defenders tbh. As for the 70s & Before. Joe Harper in (not sure how I missed that out), but over who? Quote
BobbyBiscuit Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 I'd say your 80's squad looks fine except: Mackie(x2) and Zerouali. Would replace them with Mark McGhee, Paul Mason and Peter Weir. Quote
Paperback Striker Posted February 27, 2010 Author Report Posted February 27, 2010 Thanks lads. I was a bit worried I'd get moaned at for a thread like this. Last couple of things. I'm thinking of allowing adding five "club legends" to each of the 80s-Present sides. This is essentially so I can throw Best, Law, Charlton into the United squad or Keegan, Hughes etc into the Liverpool one. However if I do it, I'm doing it across the board. So which five players ARE Aberdeen? Additionally (and this is only if anyone can be bothered obviously!) I'd like to get an idea of what's considered the classic Aberdeen kit, formation, style of play etc? For example I'll be tweaking Newcastle so by default they play hell-for-leather Keegan style attack. Anything that's quintessentially Aberdeen that I can get in really. Thanks again for the replies. Most of our legends will be in the 80s to present squad, but I'd say you could add in Martin Buchan, Arthur Graham and Joe Harper for three of the five to add in. Some of the older guys would have a better idea about that part... over to BigAl and MBT... As for the rest... all red kit (we've had some with white shorts) and I suppose you could say that our "signature" side had a fair amount of aggression and power which was supplemented by whispy wingers such as Peter Weir and Gordon Strachan. Always 4-4-2, but with Miller playing slightly off McLeish at the back so he was almost a sweeper in a back four, a lot of our attacks were also started with Miller springing from the back, linking with the midfield and attack. Our best teams all played the ball on the deck and with a lot of pace. Quote
Madbadteacher Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 Ernie Winchester for pre 80s Quote
Paperback Striker Posted February 28, 2010 Author Report Posted February 28, 2010 Thanks again for the comments. It's all been duly noted and the squads tweaked. A lot friendly reception than I got from Villa fans I can tell you! Quote
