redordead Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 It's that time of year for me once again to show my lack of love for the club by criticising their policies and lack of interest in their fans. Particularly the younger fans. ( few we have left ) 3 weeks ago I bought 2 of my sons World cup strips. Nike kits with shorts and socks included £30 each for the whole thing. 2 weeks ago I bought 2 Scotland kits at £35 each for the whole thing. Today I went onto the AFC website and refused to pay £58 each for a kids kit which lets face it comes from a catalogue. Kits for my younger again son aren't even on sale yet and probably won't be until after August. The quality of this product ( if previous is anything to go on ) is likely to be awful. Where's the incentive for me to buy kits from AFC for my kids when they ask for Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea kits at 2 thirds of the cost. As I've said before the money is not the issue, it is the deviation between what AFC charge against the others. (old firm, perish the thought £30 ) They aren't interested in getting our kids to the games and supporting the team. Instead they concentrate on bleeding dry the existing support. If someone at AFC reads this, PLEASE NOTE: my 6 year old has watched every Holland game since getting his strip, my 4 year old watched Italy and cheered them on, because he had a strip. Just think what a dons strip would do to them with a team they can go to see?? Quote

I wasn't aware the difference in price was so great til I read redordead's post, and that coupled with the refusal to sell products outwith the club shop is a disgrace. Greaves and going further back, Olympus in Glasgow used to sell an awful lot of Aberdeen gear. Now you can't get the stuff anywhere down here. No matter who you are, that can not be seen as good marketing and this does effect the support, in particular young lads and lassies. Quote

I remember the Inverness Intersport having most if not all of the Scottish premier teams (shirts, shorts and various merchandise) back in about 1994 yet Ive not seen a scottish club anywhere in the last few years except JJB sports (and thats only the old firm). The first dons kit I ever had was purchased by my grandmother in London back in about 1988. Think all scottish clubs are missing a trick these days but then again I dont know how successful it used to be letting Greaves etc sell their stuff. The internet has a lot to answer for. I wonder how long it will be before clubs dont even bother with shops anymore. Just have warehouses and a couple of blokes to stick the stamps on. Quote

The JustSport link has severly hindered us I think, especially during the season we were in the Uefa Cup. How long are we shackled to them for? Quote

Snapper Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 such a true statement by redordead regarding getting kids into supporting the club. How many times before have we heard "'cos I was bought their kit when I was a kid" when asked why they supported a particular team? Another business blunder by AFC contracting out their club shop and restricting who can and cannot sell our kits. By trying to get a bigger share of the revenue for every kit sold they've ended up worse off by selling less kits and losing out on potential fans. Quote

I'd like to say it can't come soon enough, but I fear that the damage that deal has caused may be irreversable. Yet another thing thats wrong with our club! In my opinion, the club will always settle for a quick buck rather than hold out for a better one (see our transfer dealings). JustSport pay them a set fee do they not? I remember the days you could see an Aberdeen shirt in lillywhites in London. Quote
