mizer Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 http://www.afc.co.uk/articles/20100716/six-possible-new-signings-_2212158_2093806 http://www.afc.co.uk/javaImages/5d/d4/0,,10284~8901725,00.jpg[/img] Aberdeen will have six trialists on show over the weekend as Mark McGhee continues his search for new players as he rebuilds his squad for the start of the season. All six are likely to get a run out at either of the Dons first pre-season matches against Fraserburgh on Saturday (3.00pm) or Peterhead on Sunday (2.00pm). A number of them have been with the Dons this week at training. The six players on show are: Conor Okus - Aberdeen took the former West Ham midfielder on trial when the players returned for pre-season last week. The 18 year old is a central midfielder. Conor is a product of the West Ham Academy and was part of their youth team last season. http://www.afc.co.uk/javaImages/23/d4/0,,10284~8901667,00.jpg[/img] Grant Basey - the 21 year old defender is a Wales Under-21 internationalist who played for Charlton Athletic last season. Grant is left sided and has represented his country at U17, U19 and U21 level. A youth player at Charlton he broke into the first team at The Valley in 2007. http://www.afc.co.uk/javaImages/1b/d5/0,,10284~8901915,00.jpg[/img] Yoann Folly - The 25 year old played for France at youth level before making his senior debut for Togo in 2008. Yoann was a team mate of Steve MacLean and Jim Paterson at Plymouth Argyle last season. The defensive midfielder started his career at Saint-Étienne before he was brought to the UK by Gordon Strachan who was the then Southampton manager. Paul Sturrock then took him to Sheffield Wednesday. The ex Dundee United striker actually worked with Yoann at three clubs. http://www.afc.co.uk/javaImages/c/d4/0,,10284~8901644,00.jpg[/img] Jeff Smith - the 30 year old is a left sided and plays in midfield. The experienced player started his career in the north east of England with Hartlepool United in 1998. In 2001 he impressed Sam Allardyce and signed a contract with Bolton following their promotion to the FA Premier League that season. After spending some time out on loan he signed for Port Vale. More recently he has played for Carlisle United and Darlington. http://www.afc.co.uk/javaImages/b/d4/0,,10284~8901643,00.jpg[/img] Adnan Ahmed - the Pakistan international is also on trial at Pittodrie this week. The 26-year-old played for Hungarian National Championship side Ferencvaros last season. Adnan is a former Manchester United trainee and has been capped 13 times for Pakistan and competed in last year's South Asian Football Federation Cup. Adnan is a midfielder. http://www.afc.co.uk/javaImages/13/d4/0,,10284~8901651,00.jpg[/img] Robbie Williams - the 25 year old left back or left midfield came through the youth ranks with Barnsley, playing over fifty first-team games before Andy Ritchie took him to Huddersfield Town, where he has been for the past three seasons. Williams was named the League One Player of the Month for November 2009. He has played over 70 games for the West Yorkshire side who narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship after losing in the play-offs. Quote
Tyrant Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 I think in future the EE should only publish articles when they've actually got one to write. Quote
Harcus Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 There would be several sports "journalists" at the EE looking for work if that was the case. Quote
Jute Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 If these are examples of the 100 targets that MM has been preparing then we are deeply fucked. These guys are the definition of lower league journeymen. Quote
Slim Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 Folly and Basey sound like they could be useful purely from reading their Wikipedia pages. Obviously not players to build a team around though. Quote
capitalsharpie Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 Ha ha jute! Good to see your pre season optimism coming flooding back! Quote
Dandy_Don Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 To be honest, League 1/Championship level players sound a perfect level for us right now. Got to be better than Dutch amateurs. Quote
Penfold Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 Well I suppose we'll see how they play at the weekend, but I can see it being like Hull where a few will impress but we'll only be able to afford one and he'll turn out to be shite Quote
dave_min Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 Because Touzani and De Visscher couldn't walk straight into our starting XI? Quote
BobbyBiscuit Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 Because Touzani and De Visscher couldn't walk straight into our starting XI? Neither of them were Dutch amateurs at the time we signed them. Quote
Roccovellhung Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 To be honest, League 1/Championship level players sound a perfect level for us right now. Got to be better than Dutch amateurs. Wasn't Grassi an amateur? although nae Dutch he was probably at the same shyte level as JC's trialists. Quote
McMaster Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 A bit of a sore point for me in the past was the lack of trialists coming to Pittodrie. We must pay scouts for a reason. Good luck to them, hope they are worth it Quote
TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 To be honest, League 1/Championship level players sound a perfect level for us right now. Got to be better than Dutch amateurs. I have to say what the first team did was the only significant thing, trialists, amateur or otherwise, matter fuck all. Quote
