Madbadteacher Posted July 4, 2017 Report Posted July 4, 2017 Watching some old classics recently.... Harvey (1950) Great film and Jimmy Stewart is fantastic as Elwood P Dowd. Gaslight (1940) Atmospheric psychological "thriller". Very, very good. Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) Just a great film, I like Cary Grant and he is marvelous in this. The African Queen (1951) a great film, superb acting from Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. I would recommend these to anyone that likes their cinema with great writing and no CG! Quote
Elgindon Posted July 4, 2017 Report Posted July 4, 2017 A couple of films to avoid(nephew picked them up on way to mine) John Wick, and Daniel(ie the biblical one), both rubbish, and just remembered another horrendous one - Tammy...dear oh dear Quote
MDred Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 Saw The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo yesterday. Really enjoyed it. Some very powerful scenes. Rooney Mara is amazing. Noomi Rapace is a far better Lisbeth Quote
Nips_and_Tatties Posted July 12, 2017 Report Posted July 12, 2017 Watched Alien Covenant...loved it and thought it was one of the best tbh. Hated Arthur and switched it off after 30 minutes. Also saw Snatched..bit daft but actually quite good and as a comedy...it was actually funny which makes a change these days. Up next is Going in Style and The Mummy Quote
manc_don Posted July 12, 2017 Author Report Posted July 12, 2017 Finally got round to watching Fences the other day, decent film. Not quite your usual Denzel film but interesting anyway. Also watched some bizarre film set in Wales called Just Jim. Not sure what I made of it. Quote
Nips_and_Tatties Posted July 12, 2017 Report Posted July 12, 2017 Fences bored the hell out of me. Slowest film ever however the acting was brilliant. It was like watching an intense stage drama with one built scene. Quote

It was like watching an intense stage drama with one built scene. I can understand that. I think that's how I felt about it too, great acting and I suppose it was more about the emotive story behind it. Quote
manc_don Posted July 22, 2017 Author Report Posted July 22, 2017 Dunkirk. Holy shit. That was epic. Quote
manc_don Posted July 24, 2017 Author Report Posted July 24, 2017 Going In Style. Thoroughly enjoyed it and one of my favourite movies of the year so far. Watched this yesterday afternoon. What a great and enjoyable film that was. Was exactly what the doctor ordered! Quote

KennyFuckinPowers Posted August 1, 2017 Report Posted August 1, 2017 Can't recommend this movie enough. Very slow, so don't expect fireworks, but for me, a great movie, stuck with me for days. Quote
Goldie03 Posted August 1, 2017 Report Posted August 1, 2017 I saw The Big Sick last night, pretty decent for a romcom Quote

Tyrant Posted October 17, 2017 Report Posted October 17, 2017 It's been fucking ages since I've seen a half decent film at the cinema. I think I've fallen asleep for an unprecedented 7 times in a row recently. Quote

BigAl Posted November 17, 2017 Report Posted November 17, 2017 To pacify the current Mrs Al I went to see "Murder on the Orient Express" If I was in a good mood I'd rate it as 5/10. However I'm not, so it's a 4/10 Even she didn't overly rate it. Enough said Quote
rocket_scientist Posted November 17, 2017 Report Posted November 17, 2017 Thank you Al. You’ve saved a couple of hours of life. Me and the Mrs were thinking of going to go see it in London one afternoon next week, only cos we usually take in a film when we’re down there and that was the one she suggested. But when our 16 year old saw it last weekend, she didn’t rate it so that was an alarm bell and so you’ve just killed the possibility. It can get to fuck. Never got into Agatha Christie anyway. Bitch.
