KennyFuckinPowers Posted May 7, 2019 Report Posted May 7, 2019 I won't be re-watching it either. His poorest film by some distance. I didn't enjoy the Kill Bill films to be honest, I'd say they were his poorest, but this wasn't far behind, some excellent dialogue aside, it never did it for me. Quote
rocket_scientist Posted May 7, 2019 Report Posted May 7, 2019 I enjoyed the Kill Bills, despite some preposterous plot lines, the sword fighting aerobics being beyond a joke. Pulp Fiction is the greatest film of all time for me. Django is excellent but Jackie Brown is hugely underrated. Those three are his best but Reservoir Dogs and particularly Madchen being stuck in the middle with him was part of an epic ending. Quote

Don't think I have seen Jackie Brown, but I'll look it out for sure. Quote
manc_don Posted June 2, 2019 Author Report Posted June 2, 2019 Atomic girl, good film, and I've always fancied saffa Charlize theron, but christ, she can't do accents. Quote
tom_widdows Posted August 18, 2019 Report Posted August 18, 2019 Looks like a laugh. Talk of Disney 'having issues' with it being released given it was made by Fox (now owned by the mouse) Quote
rocket_scientist Posted August 18, 2019 Report Posted August 18, 2019 I went to the cinema the earliest I'd ever been this week. 11 a.m. screening of Once upon a time in Hollywood on the day of release. Loved it. Tremendous acting by Brad Pitt and Leo DiCaprio. Quote
Tyrant Posted August 20, 2019 Report Posted August 20, 2019 I went to the cinema the earliest I'd ever been this week. 11 a.m. screening of Once upon a time in Hollywood on the day of release. Loved it. Tremendous acting by Brad Pitt and Leo DiCaprio. Looking forward to seeing this one. Even though this is the first positive account of it I've heard! I know 3 people who've seen it and none of them liked it. I just can't see me not enjoying a work of Tarantino's. Quote
rocket_scientist Posted August 20, 2019 Report Posted August 20, 2019 The Hateful 8 was a big disappointment for me but if it's any help, my 17 year old went with her mates on the night of release and my oldest daughter went to see it in Rotterdam at the weekend and they both liked it too so there's three positive accounts albeit from the same family. I can't imagine anyone other than a moron giving it a negative. Specifically, they'll be complaining that there wasn't a beginning, middle and end, like a traditional storyline. But since when did QT follow fashion. You'll love it. Quote
minijc Posted August 20, 2019 Report Posted August 20, 2019 I watched The Hateful Eight on a flight home from vegas/Mexico trip, thought it was alright enough but I'm not really a film person. Quote

The Hateful 8 had some good bits for sure but I was probably expecting too much, with QT having produced some of my favourite films of all time, Pulp Fiction being the best. I thought Jackie Brown was vastly underrated and that plus Django and Inglorious - in no particular order - would be included in my all-time top 5. This one was better than Hateful but not in my top list. It was gripping entertainment for the whole 2 hrs 40. And stay to the very end, past the credits. It's worth it... Quote
KennyFuckinPowers Posted August 25, 2019 Report Posted August 25, 2019 I watched Best Of Enemies last night, Sam Rockwell is in it, I enjoy his work. It's based on a true story, CP Ellis, former exalted cyclops of the KKK & Ann Atwater, a civil rights activist. I'd recommend it, thoroughly enjoyed it to be honest. Quote
manc_don Posted October 4, 2019 Author Report Posted October 4, 2019 Watched once upon a time in Venice last night. Wasn't anything else on and it was a decent enough time filler. Quote
Tyrant Posted October 8, 2019 Report Posted October 8, 2019 Go and see Joker. Outstanding performance from Joaquin Phoenix. Quote
rocket_scientist Posted October 8, 2019 Report Posted October 8, 2019 Go and see Joker. Outstanding performance from Joaquin Phoenix. Two of my daughters went on Sunday. One liked it, one didn't. I'll wait to see the pirate copy my neighbour brings (of every film) every month when he's home from oil shit. Quote

KennyFuckinPowers Posted October 10, 2019 Report Posted October 10, 2019 Watched IT 2 last night, on for over 2 hours and 30 minutes FFS, but it was pretty decent, plenty of jump scares and that cunt plays Pennywise very well it has to be said. Would give it a 7/10 and definitely recommend it. Quote
manc_don Posted November 18, 2019 Author Report Posted November 18, 2019 Don't think it's out over there yet, but go watch jojo rabbit when it comes out. Taika waititi's new film about the end of the second world war. Very, very funny. Saw it at the weekend and would give it a solid 8/10 Quote
Tyrant Posted November 19, 2019 Report Posted November 19, 2019 The last thing I saw a week or two back was Official Secrets. Based on a true story about a whistleblower who was charged with a breach of the official secrets act. A really good film if a little depressing. Our society is corrupt to the core and many of us swallowed Tony Blair's lies so easily. Quote
KennyFuckinPowers Posted November 20, 2019 Report Posted November 20, 2019 Thoroughly enjoyed Upgrade & Joker. Quote
Tyrant Posted November 29, 2019 Report Posted November 29, 2019 "Resurfacing" on Amazon Prime. Documentary about Andy Murray's journey back to professional tennis following two hip operations. Loved it. You don't have to like the guy (although I think it's a bit weird that some people don't) but you have to respect him. Quote
Kowalski Posted December 9, 2019 Report Posted December 9, 2019 "Resurfacing" on Amazon Prime. Documentary about Andy Murray's journey back to professional tennis following two hip operations. Loved it. You don't have to like the guy (although I think it's a bit weird that some people don't) but you have to respect him. Finally watched it. Very good and fair play to him for allowing the major op to be filmed. Would have been nice if it had finished on his win against Wawrinka. But what was the point in interviewing Lendl, Mauresmo, Nadal, Federer etc... they were on screen for barely 10 seconds. Odd. Would have loved to have heard more, especially from Lendl. Quote
rocket_scientist Posted December 11, 2019 Report Posted December 11, 2019 Yesterday. Just watched it with the youngest. Great fun. Feelgood. Robert Carlyle's cameo as John Lennon was wow. Quote
rocket_scientist Posted December 12, 2019 Report Posted December 12, 2019 The one who liked it is correct. You're right. Just watched it. Outstanding. Loved Joaquin Phoenix, both his acting and the character. The most fucked up thing I've seen for a very long time. Brilliant. Quote
rocket_scientist Posted January 6, 2020 Report Posted January 6, 2020 I watched Kingsman; a secret service last night, a total random selection off Netflix. I'd never heard of it but it had a big cast and I thoroughly enjoyed it despite the most preposterous of preposterousness going on. The boy who played Eggsy just won a Golden Globe for his Elton John. A very good young British actor. Taron Egerton has a big future. Quote
