mizer Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/spl/2010/10/21/aberdeen-fans-must-rally-round-behind-struggling-dons-insists-skipper-paul-hartley-86908-22648333/ ABERDEEN captain Paul Hartley last night pleaded with the dwindling Red Army to stick by the players as they bid to turn their season around. Gates at Pittodrie have plummeted during a run of six matches without a win that has plunged the Dons into the bottom half of the SPL. Hartley, below, said: "I know the fans are worried by recent form. We worry too because no one likes being at the bottom end of the table. We realise the next few matches could shape our season. "We are all disappointed to be where we are in the league right now but we must keep believing we can sort it out. "I think faith in your ability as a player and as a team is crucial. We can't be frightened of the challenges ahead. The injuries we've suffered this season have had an impact. We haven't had a settled side and that has had an effect on results. "Some of the injured players are returning so once we are all back up to speed, I'm certain we'll start to climb the league." Mark McGhee is backing Andrius Velicka to score the goals to bail his side out of trouble. The Dons boss will gamble by playing the on-loan striker against Hibs on Saturday even though he still isn't match fit. McGhee said: "It may well be Andrius still isn't able to give his best against Hibs, certainly not for 90 minutes, but it's a gamble worth taking." Quote
TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 So, McGhee is willing to give Velicka another start. There is no end to his awesomeness. Quote

manc_don Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 For fucks sake McGhee. He's just returning from injury and you'd prefer to play him in front of a player who has collected an award, playing well and confidence was sky high for both club and country. Nice one. On topic, I hope Hartley is right. Quote
glasgowdon Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 McGhee is a joke.......and a dick. Quote
mizer Posted October 21, 2010 Author Report Posted October 21, 2010 Article not on the Express website yet but BBC reporting this in the gossip column With Chris Maguire wanting to play as centre-forward rather than on the right wing, Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee may use Andrius Velicka as a substitute in matches to accommodate him and strike partner Scott Vernon in the team. If managing Aberdeen FC was a game of Bullseye, then McGhee is definitely the non-dart player. Quote

Mentorred Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 For those of us hoping Mcghee if he was still here would admit to some of his mistakes and sort them out in the transfer window. Aberdeen FC boss backs defensive duo McGhee has faith in Jack and Considine By Charlie Allan Published: 21/10/2010 MARK McGhee believes he’s finally found the full-back pairing to see them through to the end of the season. The Aberdeen FC manager admitted he would be happy to stick with teenager Ryan Jack and Andrew Considine, despite the fact neither is a natural in the position. Jack was signed as a midfielder and his appearance for Aberdeen FC at right-back in last weekend’s 1-0 SPL defeat by Hearts at Pittodrie was his first at top team level. Centre-back Considine has also been forced to move because the Dons failed to sign a more natural successor to Charlie Mulgrew, who joined Celtic in the summer. Edinburghdon Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Can't help but think playing Jack at right back when he's breaking into the team will be detrimental to him. He's a young central midfielder, thats where he should be played to give himself the best chance of fulfilling his potential. Quote
stoney Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Doesnt seem to have done Ricky Foster any harm! Think people are just moaning for the sake of moaning at Mcghee now. Velicka is a goal scorer - proven goal scorer, he needs games to get him fit so thats what he's getting! Dont see the problem! Quote

Folk are just moaning at folk moaning for the sake of moaning at folk moaning now. Velicka is a player in a transition in a transitional team in the second phase of a transitional transition. Awesome. Quote

Velicka is a goal scorer - proven goal scorer, he needs games to get him fit so thats what he's getting! Dont see the problem! The problem is we have a striker who is on form and winning plaudits. If he wants Velicka to get games under his belt then play some closed door matches that aren't going to fuck our season up. I couldn't even imagine wanting to go watch a football match knowing full well our main scoring threat isn't going to be fit enough for a few weeks to come. Quote
Madbadteacher Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Do we not have some sort of reserves or U19s he could be "sharpening up" by playing with? Quote
