What a load of fucking bollocks all this is. How folk don't want independence from that draconian, archaic, backwards country is beyond me. They want to take our porn but keep all this shite?

Not sure you have much of a point there as Salmond plans to keep the Queen as head of state following independence.

Yup, although I would expect a referendum on the monarchy a few years down the line, that certainly ain't going to happen in the UK which seems to get more and more saturated with Royal and Military pish every year.

It's not just the monarchy though - its England not being a secular state(joining the likes of Afganistan, Jordan, Iran, Saudia Arabia and Somailia), all the ponce of the houses of parliament that make it seem so inaccessible for the ordinary person, an unelected house of lords and the whole harping back to the empire and this idea that being "British" gives one a sort of sense of morality and decency that other countries don't have(you can say the idea of national identity is in every country but it seems so arrogant and belittling to other countries this idea of "Britishness").

And also I'd like to think if Scotland came independent when the current queen died we'd have a referendum to get out of this malarkey. We should all at least be born equal.

It makes me sick to think what kind of nauseating platitudes most of the current Labour group will/would come out with.

On 23 June 1894, a future king was born. Keir Hardie, who had been elected as the first Independent Labour Member of Parliament, spoke in the Commons:

<blockquote>“From his childhood onwards this boy will be surrounded by sycophants and flatterers by the score – [cries of “Oh!,oh!] – and will be taught to believe himself as of a superior creation [cries of “Oh,oh!]. A line will be drawn between him and the people whom he is to be called upon some day to reign over. …and the end of it all will be that the country will be called upon to pay the bill. [Cries of Divide!]”
