Jute Posted August 23, 2020 Report Posted August 23, 2020 Elche prompted to la liga after beating Girona in play off final 1-0. Elche only got into play offs when Deportivo beat Fuenlabrada with a last minute penalty in a game that was delayed for 3 weeks after season ended due to positive COVID tests in Fuenlabrada team. They've got a stadium on the outskirts of town that's half empty. Big ground like, a total white elephant. Like moving to westhill. Good club though, they went through a financial scandal a few seasons back and were way down the leagues. They seem to have good relationship with their fans and their prices are about half that of the dons. Good on them. Quote
rocket_scientist Posted August 25, 2020 Report Posted August 25, 2020 Messi has told Barcelona he's leaving, which he is perfectly entitled to do every year at the end of the season and before the new one starts. They're saying that he can walk for free and that likely suitors will be Man C and PSG. Given that he will obviously be wealthy already and not in need of cash, I wonder if he should go somewhere different, like Cove, AFC or Leeds Utd.? He might still covet European trophies right enough. Quote

Could be interesting few weeks as the favourite to replace to replace current President has already said he does not want Koeman and instead wants Xavi as manager. Koeman might not even make it to the start of the season. Quote
rocket_scientist Posted August 25, 2020 Report Posted August 25, 2020 Spanish fitba doesn't half look mad at times, the boardroom politics in particular. Real Madrid were the traditional maddies with their managerial merry-go-round. Whatever happens, I can't see Barcelona being competitive this season coming, with or without Messi. Quote

Major rebuild required there. Too many players who are on the way down and others who have not reached the levels they have prior to joining Barcelona. Quote

That clause ended on 10 June and he has a 700m euro buyout clause again now. He wants the deadline extended because of all this coronavirus nonsense. As a tried and convicted tax dodger, there's one team in Scotland that would welcome such a financially dubious character. Quote
Jute Posted October 17, 2020 Report Posted October 17, 2020 Highly unusual day in Spain with both Real Madrid and Barcelona losing 1-0. Real losing 1-0 at home to Cadiz and Barcelona 1-0 away to Getafe. Quote
Jute Posted October 24, 2020 Report Posted October 24, 2020 1-1 at half time in El Classico. Sign of the strange times we are living in that a game as big as this kicks of at 3pm. Quote

manc_don Posted October 24, 2020 Report Posted October 24, 2020 Not a lot hasn’t made sense at that club recently. Quote
Jute Posted October 28, 2020 Report Posted October 28, 2020 Barcelona board resign ahead of a vote of no confidence. Jumping before pushed. Messi gets what I suspect his request to leave was all about. Don’t think Koeman will see the season out as he was current boards choice. Can see it being an interesting few months in Catalonia. https://www.espn.co.uk/football/barcelona/story/4219004/barcelona-president-bartomeu-and-executive-board-resign Quote
Jute Posted October 31, 2020 Report Posted October 31, 2020 Barcelona fail to win again drawing 1-1 with 10 man Alaves. That’s 2 points out of the last 12 leaving them 8 points behind Madrid already. Koeman looking like a man who knows his time is up at the end. Quote
tom_widdows Posted October 31, 2020 Report Posted October 31, 2020 Does he not have to wait until fans are allowed back into the nou camp and they all start waving white hankies at him before he can actually be sacked? Quote
Jute Posted November 22, 2020 Report Posted November 22, 2020 Real Sociedad still top of la liga after 1-0 win. Currently 6 clear of Real and 12 clear of Barcelona. Atletico are second however 3 points behind but two games in hand. Quote
Jute Posted April 5, 2021 Report Posted April 5, 2021 Valencia players claiming they were forced to continue with game against Cadiz after walking off when one of their players was allegedly racially abused. Apparently ref told them they would forfeit game if the didn’t continue. Spanish league and UEFA need to get firm rules in place surrounding this. Players need to know there are consequences to this and punishment has to include the clubs so they are motivated to ensure any sign of racism is dealt with immediately. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/apr/04/valencia-walk-off-against-cadiz-after-diakhaby-accuses-opponent-of-racist-abuse Quote

Huesca chucked it away drawing 0-0 with Valencia which helped Elche. At the top both Real and Atletico were still trying to lose the title yesterday with both going behind in first half. Eventually Atletico caved in and scored twice in second half to win the title. Zidane allegedly stepping down at Real now that season is finished. Quote

Jute Posted January 8, 2023 Report Posted January 8, 2023 Been decent first 10 minutes. Barcelona in particular playing some nice football. Quote
Jute Posted January 8, 2023 Report Posted January 8, 2023 0-1. Well worked goal by Barcelona. Spoiled by 3 minute wait for to decide if there had been a foul in the build up. Quote
