Dons are prepared to pay for right man

board will take time in manager search

Chairman Stewart Milne and the other major shareholders at the club covered the costs of dismissing manager Mark McGhee and his coaching team of Scott Leitch and Colin Meldrum last Wednesday.

The same majority shareholders of the club have agreed to fund the costs involved in finding and appointing the new management team.

With the club joint bottom of the SPL, two goals better off than bottom side Hamilton, the Dons know they have to get their new appointment right and will take their time in going through the recruitment process.

The board is comfortable with the interim coaching team of youth coaches Neil Cooper and Neil Simpson taking charge of the first team for the game at Hearts on Saturday and the duo have been told to proceed this week on the assumption they will be in the dugout.

The self-appointed sub-committee of Milne, chief executive Duncan Fraser and director of football Willie Miller spent the weekend sifting through applications for the post.

Some candidates, such as former Hull City manager Phil Brown and former St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson have been more creditable than others, while former Dons co-manager Jocky Scott would also be keen on a return to Pittodrie.

The sub-committee will draw up a shortlist this week and begin interviewing candidates with Scotland under-21 manager Billy Stark and former Hibernian manager John Hughes expected to be on the list.

The money for the severance package has been paid personally by the Board of Directors, as will any compensation required to get the new guy in.

Good to hear although you do wonder why they are quite happy to pay for their fuck ups but not pay some cash into the club to get better players/managers to prevent them having the fuck ups in the first place.

Phil Brown would be an interesting appointment. I don't know about good appointment but interesting.

Whilst no candidates jump out I'd go for Craig Brown myself. Experienced and used to working with a shoe string budget. Knows what he's doing.

Apparently the only name in the fans lips in Aberdeen is Billy Stark.

Well that is according to Reporting Scotland.

Yeh the interview with the old geezer was quite strange - followed by the man who never mentioned his name and then the young lad who didn't seem overly impressed at the thought  ;D
