I listen to the bbc podcast daily and the amount of times that Billy Dodds said he never knew anything about EBT'S and did not know who was on them as he did not talk to other players about their wages.

Surely Cambell Ogilvie has to resign from the SFA.

Well I think that dispels any myth that BBC Scotland can't do a proper investigation on the huns.  I ran out of popcorn after half an hour!

 

A few folk seem to be in untenable positions - D&P as administrators, Campbell Ogilvie, Neil Doncaster for being a cretin.  Hopefully some legal implications for some of the others who received EBTs as well.

Duff and Phelps, administrators of Rangers Football Club, issued the following statement tonight.

 

Paul Clark, joint administrator, said: "The use of EBTs at Rangers goes back many years and was a matter of public record in the annual accounts. Our primary focus has been ensuring the survival of Rangers Football Club and attracting a new buyer for the business as well as investigating the financial situation at the Club since the takeover in May 2011. We and the Club will continue to give every assistance to the football authorities on issues affecting the Club. It should, however, be noted that the First Tier Tax tribunal has yet to publish its findings in relation to the use of EBTs."

My take on the BBC show.

Alot of the stuff mentioned was already known and out there but the show gave a good over view of the situation and came up with a few more nuggets.

 

The EBTs seem to have been as widespread as suggested and I can't see anyway that the Huns will win the BTC (but then I don't think anyone ever thought they would).  The burden of proof required is significantly below a criminal case and the only question is just how big a bill will they get.

 

The double contracts I think is less clear and Daly used some choice editing of sources to suggest they existed but I'm not sure we've had the smoking gun yet.  Of course with Rangers seemingly helping Doncaster to slow the investigation to an absolute crawl, and so many players and officials to investigate we may struggle to get any resolution before rangers are liquidated.

 

The real shocker was just how involved D&P were with the takeover, which makes their case against Whyte's lawyers superfluous.  Their running of the administration process has been bizarre from week one, when compared to previous similar situations, and I would imagine HMRC and or Ticketus will be considering trying to get them removed from the process.

 

Other than that we had the hilarious figure of Andrew Ellis claiming Whyte had told him Prince Michael of Monaco was behind the rangers takeover, a pornographer designing the huns ebt scheme, Souness getting a payment via EBT while manager of Blackburn (eh?) and suggestions that despite all his bluster Murray never actually put a penny into rangers, instead using the "bonkers" HBOS.

 

Oh and what a great soundtrack we had.

 

The cherry on top is that Rangers Media has decided that Sammy the hun featured is actually a Tarrier actor plant.

The BBC programme suggested it was the Too-gay deal as Souness was at Blackburn at the time and bought him a few weeks later.

I think there have been questions about the Boumsong deal for years.  According to someone on P&B it was that deal that triggered HMRC's interest in the huns in the first place.  They knew the deal was rotten to the core but couldn't prove it, they then discovered the EBT scam.

Totally agree Kow. Sat and watched that and every time I thought they had delivered the "coup de grace" they maanged to move on and reveal something even more damning. Whilst appreciating it is only one side of the story, I think there are a number of folk who must be looking over their shoulders after that. Reckon BBC will be 100% certain of their facts before they broadcast that last night.

I thought last night's show had a few damning facts (the d & p ticketus fiasco especially)

But most of it was old news mixed with amateurish production in the way only BBC Scotland can.  What the fuck was all that 'data room' pish for?

If anything the fact the program looked like it was put together as part of a school project on an Amiga detracted from some of the underlying investigative journalism.

I wonder how many folk gave up and switched off before the end and therefore missed the ticketus revelation? you could have fitted the real hard hitting stuff into a 20min show.

 

And what illness does the presenter have, that makes his head change direction with every syllable?

Overall I was disappointed given the build up it had this week.

The Scottish Premier League has set a deadline for Rangers to hand over key documents relating to an investigation into possible dual contracts.

 

A request was made by the SPL in March and BBC Scotland has learned they are still awaiting information from the club's administrator Duff & Phelps.

 

If the club fail to comply, it is understood the league will look to impose some form of sanction.

 

The investigation concerns Rangers' use of employee benefits trusts.

 

The EBTs are the subject of a long-running HM Revenue and Customs tax tribunal, which could result in a £75m bill for Rangers.

 

A BBC documentary, 'Rangers - Who Sold the Jerseys' - revealed that over 70 players and coaches benefited from the scheme.

 

Meanwhile, Scottish FA chief executive Stewart Regan says his organisation has no plans to step in to investigate possible dual contracts at Rangers, insisting he will leave it to the SPL.

 

The SFA will act as the appeal body should one be needed after the SPL investigation.

If this was Aberdeen, Dundee United, Hibs, Hearts etc would we still be in business/in SPL? Absolutely not - don't even know why we'd even pretend differently.

 

In Italy, Switzerland, France we have had clubs being relegated, banned etc and the leagues still exist. If Scottish football can't survive with the loss of one club then shame on fucking us for letting that happen, and yes it will be tough, but sporting integrity should be the priority.

 

Let's assume Rangers then paid the refs off for every game next season, won every game, and then it was discovered the refs had taken a bung. Would that be ok, because we can't afford to lose Rangers?
