In any case c14k is hardly a ridiculous number to be taking given our attendances before McGhee came along averaged out at about 12k. If a few more are there, meaning more money for afc and potentially more regular fans then quite frankly I can't see why anyone should complain. The fact that rumours are we will have roughly the same number of fans as the home team makes it even better Quote

The bigger the crowd on all sides the better, improves atmosphere and brings in cash. Quote

We don't have anything to lose!! a 1-0 defeat last weekend in a strange way was a positive result - conceding 3, 4 or 5... would have damaged confidence but 1-0 gives us something to build and by the sounds of it with a bigger crowd behind us hopefully we can make a good game of it and get through to the final Quote

The first time they met was at Hampden in 1972, when Aberdeen had qualified on the back of a barrage of goals. The Dons went into the semi final against Celtic having scored a remarkable 36 goals from 10 matches and they went so close to reaching the final in cracking cup tie in the Hampden rain. Twice Aberdeen took the lead but were pegged back and eventually lost to a late Callaghan goal. When Dave Robb headed home a Zoltan Varga corner to put the Dons 2-1 up, it looked good for Aberdeen. However Johnstone levelled from what seemed an obvious offside position to put the pressure back on the Dons. In 1984 the format of the competition had changed with the semi finals being played over two legs. Aberdeen were battling on all fronts at home and abroad in 1984. As ECWC holders the Dons were held by Celtic in the first game at Pittodrie, the nearest the Dons came to taking a lead to Glasgow was a 25-yard shot from Gordon Strachan that came back off the bar. The Dons were undone in the return by a penalty converted by Mark Reid after 54 minutes. The game was played in a nasty atmosphere with trouble on and off the pitch. Celtic were awarded a debatable penalty after Burns was impeded by Bell. Defeat meant that Aberdeen could concentrate on defending their European crown as well as going for a first league and cup double. In 1989 as Aberdeen were going for their third League Cup Final appearance in succession, it took a sensational Ian Cameron strike to put Aberdeen through. Cameron had been an Alex Smith signing from St Mirren earlier in the season. Celtic were keen to get back amongst the silverware and they had the better opportunities in the early stages of the game. Celtic's Roy Aitken was booked after fouling Cameron and he was dismissed late on after a similar robust challenge on Jim Bett. Cameron was awarded the man of the match for his all round performance and winning goal. The Dons went on to beat rangers in the Final. Three years later Aberdeen repeated their win over Celtic and on that occasion Aitken was in the red of Aberdeen as player/coach with the Dons. It took an Eoin Jess goal in 41 minutes to win the tie against Liam Brady's Celtic. The last occasion the sides met was what was billed as the 'final before the final' as the winners would face Raith Rovers in an Ibrox final. With Hampden being redeveloped the Dons semi final clash at Ibrox was a tense affair. It took a Brian O'Neil goal from a John Collins cross in extra time to send the Dons out of the cup. Celtic famously though went on to lose the final to Jimmy Nicholl's Raith on penalties. Quote
