David McNamee was 10 minutes away from becoming Craig Brown's first signing for Aberdeen last night before the blizzard conditions in the north east put his ambitions on hold.

The former Scotland full-back was about to land at Aberdeen Airport but the state of the runways meant he was forced to return to the Midlands, putting his move to Pittodrie on hold.

"I'd flown up from Birmingham and we were 10 minutes outside Aberdeen when the pilot was told that we wouldn't be able to land until 4.10, which was half an hour later," said the 30-year-old. "So we circled the airport for half an hour and then the word came through that the airport wouldn't re-open until five o'clock.

"It turned out that our plane didn't have enough fuel to wait that long so we had to return to England. Once we got back we discovered that they'd postponed the re-opening of Aberdeen until 7pm."

McNamee had been due to undergo a medical this morning before signing a deal until the end of the season.

He'd played in two bounce games for Brown and Archie Knox at Motherwell last week and was under consideration for a place in the squad to face the Steelmen tomorrow.

"It's incredibly annoying to have got so close and then to have everything held up by something as unavoidable as snow," said McNamee, a League Cup winner with Livingston in 2004.

Would the weather not have been the same in Edinburgh...But it could be to save the company money no?

No. Hasn't snowed down here......yet

So this means we'll be signing a full back when the weather improves?  At last!

I'd assume the plane was due to fly back to Brum after it'd been to Aberdeen, so just went back so it could then go complete it's next sector.

Doesn't really matter anymore though, we've no game this week, so if we sign him next week instead we save a whole weeks wages!

Not enough fuel to circle Aberdeen airport for 50 minutes but enough to fly back to Birmingham from Aberdeen.

Mmmmm.

Not so much. They would have needed enough to circle Aberdeen Airport for 50 minutes and fly back to Birmingham if they were gonna stay and circle the airport.

Where was he gonna sign? In Aberdeen Airport arrivals lounge? Anyone who thinks travelling from Dyce Airport to Pittodrie can be done in 10 minutes has obviously never heard of the Haudigan Roundabout

Clearly you've never heard of the route via kingswells which cuts out the haudigan roundabout
