coopy100 Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 His cup record alone should be enough to get him on that list As much as I agree that his cup record was beyond pish I feel his league record alone, considering where we had been for the best part of a decade, means he does not deserve to even get a place in that list whatsoever. Sandaldinho Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 His cup record alone should be enough to get him on that list if he had won the league in every season he was at AFC would you still want him on the list because of his cup record? i think not and so that statement is pish Quote
stoney Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 But we didnt win the league every year so therefor its relevent Aye did Kow - As did I Madrid and Athens, but certainly not the games as i only seen us score 1 goal but somehow ship 10 . Not Good viewing Quote

stoney Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 I honestly expected us to smash panathinaikos! They were awful (copenhagen even beat them) all of their fans we spoke to during the game were expecting us to win. We went out there and played a 5-4-1 and left Aluko, JDV and Lovell on the bench! We didnt even get a shot on target. Atletico - better opposition but again made it very easy for them at least we got a shot on target in that game though! Quote

That was Aluko's debut so it would have been a bit harsh to chuck him in at the deep end so quickly. Quote
boboisared Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Ha ha Aluko who, to the best of my knowledge hadn't played one game for us yet? Quote
stoney Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Must have been a better option than Derek Young or Jackie Mcnamara though? Quote
boboisared Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 If Jimmy had played an untested youngster (who I'm certain had no first team experience at all) on loan in a big match in a very hostile atmosphere and Aluko failed to produce he'd have been lynched. Quote
Stewart Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Must have been a better option than Derek Young or Jackie Mcnamara though? In hindsight yes, but McNamara had by far the most European experience in that squad. Jimmy wasn't to know that he was going to be utter shite that night. Quote
boboisared Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Poor bait bobo If you think I'm fishing about Walker I'm not. At least Walker had first team experience with the players when he played against Bayern, however minimal it was. Pittodrie's also never hostile Quote

He got about ten minutes or so and it would have just been a run out. Quote
stoney Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Hey! Im not the manager, but if i was - we would have won that game Quote
Kowalski Posted December 30, 2010 Author Report Posted December 30, 2010 Thought I'd bump this seeing as we have a few new posters recently, and its very close between McGhee and A. Miller. Quote
s1dnk Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 I didn't vote for either and I have stated my reason for who I voted for earlier in the thread but if it was down to MM or AM then I think I'd go with AM. I never liked the appointment of Miller, he then went on to waste money while weakening the squad. I can't slag McGhee too much, I wasn't over the moon about his appointment but I wasn't displeased by it either. MM also weakened the team but circumstances are different now, we have less money and although nobody can defend his lack of fullbacks, Alex Miller certainly had more resources to make a success of things but instead blew it. For me Miller was worse. Quote
approx.purified Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Went for McGhee. The pain of his 18 months in charge is obviously still raw. I know all about the Alex Miller era but looking back at AFC Heritage website I don't believe I ever attended a game while he was in charge whereas I attended so many games under McGhee that left me so angry or disappointed. Could it be that times were so bad when Miller was in charge you just didn't want to go full stop? Both were rank rotten though. Quote
approx.purified Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Could it be that times were so bad when Miller was in charge you just didn't want to go full stop? Both were rank rotten though. Back then I hardly went to games. The last game I went to before Alex Miller became manager was a 1-1 draw with Dundee Utd in March of 1997. I think I didn't go to another game until February 1999 when we beat Killie. My parents rarely took to games when I was a kid, in fact I think they've only ever taken me twice. Before I got my season ticket in 2000/01 I relied on tickets from my primary school or my one of my dads friends from work who used to get complimentary tickets for games. Quote
Stuartini Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 In my opinion McGhee was a bigger disappointment, but Miller was a worse manager. But then again McGhee lead us to record defeats and, allegedly, managed to disenchant the entire squad. Which is some achievement. But enough of this past chat, new year, new start and the only way is up for Jack and Victor! Quote
