TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Why? Because we are going to win the league cup this season! That obliterates any acheivement in the last 15 years Obliterates? I'd far rather have had the European run. No contest for me, by far the best time I've had as an Aberdeen fan for a long long time. I'd take the League Cup over the European run, 1995 is now a distant memory but whilst I was proud of the run in Europe I was prouder to see my team lift a trophy, winning cups is what it's all about, not getting mortal in Madrid etc, albeit it was great fun. Please don't misunderstand me, I definitely don't mean just hooring and touring and getting blazing around Europe, though that was a very nice bit of collateral damage, I just meant having thousands of Dandies out having a great time across Europe, mixing it with the big cunts! Felt like the big boys game all over again. Quote
RTYD Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 One of...it'll be a game still talked about for years. Nae by old cunts it won't Quote

Felt like the big boys game all over again. I wasn't in Madrid or Munich but I was in Berlin 8 years ago and while I do appreciate what you mean, it doesn't even come close to having even more Dandies celebrating at Hampden when Miller, McLeish and McKimmie lifted those trophies. Felt like the big boys game all over again. completely right walking about madrid in my kilt and my dons top, most people who walked by looking at the top and coming and shaking your hand christ, being in madrid to watch the dons play...just everything about that trip was absolutely immense and even though im jealous of the older fans for having that on a regular basis, it was also special on its own merits this time we were mixing it with the big boys in a time when it was COMPLETELY unknown for the "provincial" spl teams to do so imagine how jealous you'd have been if you'd seen hibs/hearts/dundee utd fans on the telly mixing in the square of madrid, or bouncin about in the vicente calderon we could have been on the cusp of something right good at aberdeen and i still believe we made a massive mistake sacking jimmy Quote

Millertime Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 haha under jimmy, i expected us to win at home to anyone. even the old firm. under jimmy i knew we'd at least put up a bit of a fight in glasgow too. under jimmy i knew we'd be fighting for europe most seasons under jimmy i knew we'd get to the latter stages of the cups most seasons under jimmy i knew we had a manager who loved not only the club, but the city he had us as an established top 4 SPL team, one teams feared coming to play against and one who had put their name back on the european map he done all of that within what, 5 years of taking over the mess he did imagine what he could have done if he was given ANOTHER 5 years? Tyrant Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 I agree with most of that, MT. Although I disagree with the implication that Jimmy could have taken us further. I think he'd taken us as far as he could but he has to go down as a good manager that we had. Quote

I think he'd taken us as far as he could but he has to go down as a good manager that we had. I also agree with much of what MT said, however, and this is what I really feel about JC. He frustrated the hell out of me. I don't think he had the confidence in his own ability to take us to the next level. I always felt he managed to do just enough to make himself look respectable. Just enough to haul us away from danger. He probably had potential to be a good manager, but after 5 years he never really showed that he was going to get any better. He served his purpose. McGhee was a failure, lets move on and hope that Brown and Knox can use their vast experience to manipulate the Board and make this club great again. Quote

stoney Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Excellent a new toy to play with, merry christmas stoney. haha under jimmy, i expected us to win at home to anyone. even the old firm. But we didnt, teams like hamilton and cally thistle were pumping us, not to mention hibs etc under jimmy i knew we'd at least put up a bit of a fight in glasgow too. Did we? never won at ibrox think we got a draw, but then again we drew there under paterson and beat celtic at parkhead so that wasnt much of an improvement there, more a continuation if you will, he was scared to get beat and set his team out that way, a more postive manager with the players we had at the time would have done betterunder jimmy i knew we'd be fighting for europe most seasons under jimmy i knew we'd get to the latter stages of the cups most seasons Two semis in 4 years? Breath taking how many first or second round exits? under jimmy i knew we had a manager who loved not only the club, but the city he had us as an established top 4 SPL team, one teams feared coming to play against and one who had put their name back on the european map Including twice scraping into the "top 4" in the last two games, how many points behind third were we in those two seasons? he done all of that within what, 5 years of taking over the mess he did What mess? It was a bloody good team he inherited - twice as good as the one he left us withimagine what he could have done if he was given ANOTHER 5 years? - relegated us, the warning signs were there for all to see in jimmys last season, dont know many people who didnt predict our downfall he left a season too late in my opinion thing is though matey, who knows how much further he could have, given time? everyone harks back to alex ferguson all the time Who does? ok, at man u, how soon did he make significant process? jimmy transformed our team and club in 5 years into what i described above. minijc Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Millertime. Jimmy's gone, get over it. Just to back Stoney up on the point on going to Glasgow with the players we had at that time, I remember a game where we went with lovell up top on his own, the huns were awful that game but we made them look good by sitting back trying not to score or conceed. Millertime Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Excellent a new toy to play with, merry christmas stoney. if you believe it in the way youve painted it, then i feel very, very sorry for you. jimmys last season, he finished 4th. how the HELL did he leave us as relegation fodder? as i alluded to earlier, the squad he assembled were full of characters that he could manage. thats what you do, you buy players you can work with. its not his fault he was sacked and the next manager couldnt handle them Quote
minijc Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 3 wins in his last 16 games, Frankie, that is what top four is made of. Quote
Millertime Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 get your point yeah, but if we only picked up 3 wins in his last 16 games...how well must we have been doing in the first 22 to amass as many points to keep us in 4th!! as im sure you know, you need to judge at the end of the season and we finished 4th and qualified for Europe. thats the minimum we should be looking at i think, with the off exceptional season thrown in. jimmy would ALWAYS deliver the minimum, thats the club he built in 5 years. i honestly believe given another 5 years, he'd have moved us on again Quote
minijc Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 It just showed how bad the rest of the league was, really. Quote

A good manager but scared of failure, which go figure ended in him failing Quote
