yawn yawn yawn

if i voice my opinion, im attention seeking?

suck me.

im right, 100%.

it doesnt matter how many games ive been to or how many games ive seen, so shove that

argument right up your arse

ive seen enough to form my opinion, simple.

I was going to post this on the Capri thread but I suppose here is as good as any. I think your car looks fucking awful. It clearly has reliability issues and has that amateur look about it. Now I've only seen pics on the Internet but I've seen enough because Im incredibly perceptive about cars and I'm definitely 100% right.

Christ on a bike. What a car crash of a thread.

Paul Hartely offers us plenty on the park. When we were on the dreadful run that eventually got McGhee the sack, we were being overrun in the midfield and full back positions which had the tendency for Hartely to become somewhat swamped with other peoples jobs and thus, had a tendency not to be seen and somewhat allowing the game to pass him by.

However, with a manager now in place that has got us organised and a much more stable unit than the one under McGhee, this brings out the best in Hartely. His dead ball deliveries are very good including his penalty taking, his passing range is also very good ranging from short to long raking passes and he can also pop up at the right time with a goal. Millertime, I don't know what you expect Hartely to do or whether you expect him to be making lung bursting, mazy runs to score goals akin to Gareth Bale but he does what he is expected to on the field, a calming and inspirational leader who keeps it simple and is always driving his team forwards. Yes he is not the fastest, but he should be the first name on the team sheet.

Without a doubt, one of the best captains of AFC in recent years.

To be labelling him as a 'passenger' in our team is ridiculous IMO.

my take on it is that while hartley hasn't been as great as some have made out in a few games this season he's far from passed it.

In the games he's performed he has done so very well and to be fair in the games that he hasn't performed in he's still been miles from being the worst on the pitch, although I doubt he could ever be the worst player on the pitch when ifil is involved... he's simply not a passenger!

in short it seems like millertime has seen one relatively poor performance and made a snap judgement, which despite his awesome powers of perception has turned out to be wrong.  which doesn't surprise me if he rated zero higher than jess...

Only the second time I've seen him play and he was one of our poorer performers yesterday.  Young seemed to be running the midfield, not Hartley.  :-\

First half I thought he played pretty well, his passing at times was just a joy to watch, three amazing cross field balls right to Jacks feet who then done really well from that.  Second half Hartley looked tired, personally I'd have taken him off and put Pawlett on for him then move Jack in to the middle where his lack of pace won't show as much as it does on the wing.

Three amazing cross field balls but the rest of the time he was just running in straight lines and doing feck all.

Those three balls will do nothing but add to his already shocking primadona attitude, and I fully expect Brown to get rid in the summer.

Okay, this has probably been gone over before, but I've had a few Jack and Cokes, so I'll be buggered if I'm reading through this thread the night to see if I'm repeating what has been gone over.

Hartley is a decent player, he's a strong player, and he takes absolutely no shit whatsoever.  It's possible his 'legs have gone' but I remember guys like Charlie Nicholas standing doing next to fuck all while play raged on around him, then, when he got the ball at his feet, he was capable of moments of sheer genius.  The man did next to no running at all, but running around wasn't something Nicholas did.  You played the ball to his feet and he did the rest.

I've never been one to particularly care if a player doesn't bomb around the park like a demented Tasmanian Devil on speed.... fuck I need some speed, btw.....  what I care about is what he does with the ball once he's in possession of the thing.

To my mind I'm happy to see younger players do the spadework in the middle.  Let a fit Fyvie charge around the park expending his youthful energy... leaving Hartley the luxury of getting in the faces of opposition players and dictating play.

The sum of the parts don't equal the whole with guys like Hartley. We could play some fud in the middle who's 'legs haven't gone', like, say, Gary McDonald.  But given the option I'd take a presence in the middle over a younger player any day of the week.

You play against a guy like Hartley and you know he's there breathing down your neck.

I'd rather play against some fanny who's scared to put in a tackle than against some guy who'll punt you 50 feet in the air for looking at him funny.

I genuinely thought this was going to be Fyvie and Pawlett's break-out year... where they did the running and the creation, while the old warrior that is Hartley bossed the midfield and looked after the welfare of the younger loons on his team.

Hartley's value to the team lies beyond the ability to barrel around the park for 90 minutes. He's a genuine leader and captain in the style of a Willie Miller. When did we last have that?
