NORTHERN Ireland international defender Tony Capaldi was today set to join Aberdeen FC on trial.

Aberdeen FC manager Craig Brown moved for the 29-year-old former Birmingham City, Plymouth and Cardiff City left-back as he stepped up his efforts to strengthen his squad in January.

Brown also revealed he has spoken to Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson as he attempts to secure loan deals to add some extra quality to bolster Aberdeen for the rest of the season.

From a Cardiff fan on mad:

"oh aye? wanna send him back down here? coz he's a **** ton better than lee naylor.

was always very average for us, couple of mistakes here and there including one for the goal that lost us the fa cup final. i think he'd do alright in the spl though, would be solid down the left against most teams in the spl, if not against the top 2 that shall not be named. can play left mid if needed too.

as a free signing, can't really go wrong, should be at least average."

sounds like a positive move. Hopefully it comes to fruition. Also would be great to see one or two Man U loan signings.

I'm wondering if we enquired about Ritchie de Laet from Man Utd, he's a full back and a very good player who has just been recalled from Preston.
