Kowalski Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 Brown is wary of the East Fife apprentices By Michael Gannon Published: 07/01/2011 Aberdeen manager Craig Brown is well aware the apprentices will be determined to overthrow the master when East Fife arrive at Pittodrie tomorrow. Brown’s Dons face the Methil club in the Scottish Cup fourth round and the former Scotland manager will come up against his former charges John Robertson, Gordon Durie and Stevie Crawford. Brown handed former Hearts goalscorer and now East Fife manager Robertson 11 of his 16 Scotland caps. He made coach Durie one of his most trusted lieutenants, with the former Rangers attacker amassing 47 caps and playing in World Cups in Italy in 1990 and in all three matches in France in 1998. He also gave former Dons forward Crawford the first of his 25 appearances for Scotland in 1995 when he netted on his debut in the Kirin Cup match against Ecuador. Brown’s fondness for the trio will not prevent his ruthless desire to progress in the cup. Aberdeen have endured their share of disasters in the knockout competitions and the new manager is determined not to add to the litany of shame. He said: “The guys at East Fife do not need any introduction. They were the players I often looked to when it came to scoring goals for Scotland. “Robertson and Crawford both scored for Scotland against Ecuador when we won the Kirin Cup in Japan in 1995. Durie never let Scotland down. They were all very good players as well as being good people. “I expect they will have East Fife well organised and extremely motivated and they would love to cause an upset. “It is nice to see them in the game but we will be focused on what Aberdeen has to do to get into the next round.” Robertson will know there is no chance Brown will be taking his side lightly. Brown has been in the game too long to assume and will drill the Dons players as if they thought they were facing the Old Firm. The former Scotland manager said: “I have experienced both sides. “When I was with Clyde we beat Motherwell in the League Cup as a Second Division club and we came within eight minutes of holding Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup at Pittodrie. “They were the cup holders at the time and that would have been a major shock. “These games can be extremely tricky and you have got to approach them in the right manner. “Every season there are major upsets. “It was not so long ago Clyde put out Celtic at Broadwood when the whole country was watching because of Roy Keane’s debut. “That was against a very strong Celtic side, so it showed there is always potential for clubs from lower divisions to win one-off matches. There will be no complacency.” Didn't realise Durie was still playing football. Quote

BobbyBiscuit Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 Aberdeen : Langfield, McArdle, McNamee, Hartley, Diamond, Considine, Jack, Young, Maguire, Vernon, Aluko. Quote
RDU_64 Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 I assume we will line up like this Langfield McNamee McArdle Diamond Considine Young Hartely Jack Aluko Vernon Maguire Possibly Jack may be out wide right and Young in the centre but would love to see Jack take advantage of injuries to others and now that we have a right back and put in some good performances in the centre of midfield as he was MOTM against Raith in the League Cup when he was in the centre. Can't make it today as I am sitting in the uni library so will have to make do with chat and the radio! COYR Quote
