dickofthedons Posted February 2, 2011 Author Report Posted February 2, 2011 The young Dons defeated Keith on a sticky Kynoch Park with three penalties, five goals and two woodworks ensuring that there was plenty to consider after this entertaining encounter. Aberdeen took the lead in the 13th minute when youngster Adam Morrison was adjudged to have brought down Mitchell Megginson just inside the penalty area. Megginson took the spot kick himself and fired it low to Andy Shearer's right leaving the keeper helpless. Keith won a penalty of their own seven minutes later when a clever ball over the top by Neil Robertson found Dean Donaldson running through the inside right channel. Donaldson cleverly drew the foul from keeper Mark Howard. Jonathon Smith stepped up to drill it straight down the middle. The Dons looked the more likely to get their noses back in front and they should have been back in front in the twenty eighth minute when Josh Magennis powered through the heart of the Keith defence but he never looked confident and weakly shot against the legs of Andy Shearer from 16 yards. Magennis was to make amends for that miss ten minutes before the break when he pounced to net from an acute angle after Myles Anderson's header from Peter Pawlett's free kick bounced back off Shearer's right hand post. Just three minutes into the second half Aberdeen doubled their advantage when a free kick whipped into the near post was flicked home from barely a yard by Myles Anderson. The game was opening up even at this early stage and Keith passed up a great chance to level when Dean Donaldson danced his way to the byeline and cut the ball back to Jamie Lennox, but from 6 yards out he scuffed his effort and the chance was gone. Aberdeen were then back on the attack. Andy Shearer did well to block from Josh Magennis after the big man deftly controlled Clark Robertson's flighted through ball before trying to manoeuvre the keeper out of position. The power of the Irish front man was proving hard for the part timers to handle and just before the hour mark he grabbed his second with a low drive from 16 yards, finding the bottom right corner. Aberdeen could well have added to their tally with Mitchell Megginson passing up a couple of openings and Jordan Brown went close with a header at the back post, which zipped across the face of the goal. Two minutes from time the third penalty of the game arrived when Peter Pawlett was felled by Adam Morrison just inside the penalty area. The winger was determined the penalty would be his but having wrestled the ball off his team mates he struck a weak shot which Andy Shearer pushed onto the post before collecting it. Stephen O'Neill gave the SPL side the lead after an assist by Ryan Fraser and captain Nicky Low added a second from the penalty spot three minutes before the break after Eric Watson clipped Jordan Brown. However right on half time Calum Watson gave the Highland League side hope by reducing the deficit to one when he flicked home Jordan Head's header from barely a yard out. The Blues chances were reduced when referee Caryl Potten red carded Daniel Park for a lunging tackle and the Dons teenagers duly saw out the remainder of the game to book a berth against Turra. Quote
