Milsom - DONE: 2 YEAR DEAL Langfield - Ambivalent. Has improved since Leighton back, didn't bottle last sf! Still cannae kick ba oot! Diamond - Hearts are VERY welcome to you. Early potential, became a total liability. Aluko - Ambivalent. Carrying injury, or couldn't care less?? Sadly, often seemed latter until recently (coincidently when contract up!) McNamee - , too injury prone sadly Smith - would keep, but not on high wage. Trust Brown to find replacement if need be. Vuja - Initial promise, then a few fuck ups. As Smith. Blackman - Always going back to Blackburn. Very disappointing for us, after form at Motherwell. Howard - Tin hat on, I'd have Esson back to challenge Clangers. Young - Always gave the maximum 100% effort in whatever position he has been played in, which have been many! Thanks, but no new deal. Bizzarely i find that even funnier then him going to Farts. At least if he went to the mini huns, I'd think he had been chasing the money, but can't honestly see the HIVS paying him more than us. It will be a summer of transition at the Dons with Zander Diamond, Derek Young, Mark Howard and David McNamee all plying their trade elsewhere while Nikola Vuja-dinovic, Steven Smith and Nick Blackman will be back at Udinese, Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers. Doubts remain about the future of another four players as Jamie Langfield, Sone Aluko and Chris Maguire have yet to decide whether they will accept the new deals which they have been offered while the manager fears captain Paul Hartley is edging towards announcing his retirement as time catches up with him. The decision to disperse with the services of Young, who was named captain on his 249th appearance for the club against Caley Thistle on Saturday, has been the subject of debate among supporters, with his manager admitting others would have been shown the exit door ahead of him had they been out of contract this summer. For all the discussion about who is leaving and who is being offered new deals, one thing every supporter is in agreement about is the urgent need for better quality players. It is clear the Aberdeen manager is looking for more bang for his buck next season. Brown has been informed his budget will be the same as the one afforded to his predecessor Mark McGhee last summer which means he will have to invest wisely in his squad. Depending what happens with Hartley, Aluko and Maguire, he could find himself with extra funds to play with. The Dons captain is among the highest earners at Pitto-drie, along with Diamond, while the club will receive in the region of £600,000 in compensation should Aluko and Maguire move on. Brown would like to retain the services of his captain and two attackers, but he knows their departures would offer him more scope to really bring about change at the club. Goodness knows it is needed. Former manager McGhee must shoulder a lot of blame for his ridiculous decision to start the season without a recognised full back and the bizarre sight of four central defenders playing across the back four until December was ruthlessly exposed by other SPL clubs. It is no coincidence full backs were Brown’s first order of business following his arrival and the club’s on field results picked up as a result. Reaching two cup semi- finals were the only crumbs of comfort to be found away from league duty, but the Dons’ failure to compete against Celtic in their two Hampden meetings exposed the glaring deficiencies which still remain. Brown is a man who knows what needs to be done and having been decisive in making his mind up about the current squad the club’s supporters will be watching with interest at who will be brought in. In the build-up to Saturday’s game the former Scotland manager called on his players to give the support some cause for optimism in the remaining four games, but the Pittodrie faithful have heard enough of the rhetoric and are staying away in their thousands as Saturday’s attendance of 6,280 illustrated. It was the second lowest turnout for a league game at Pittodrie this season. Those who did turn out on Saturday were treated to two teams going through the motions. With nothing other than pride to play for the game had all the intensity of a Sunday morning under-15 game. Chances went amiss at both ends with the Dons more culpable than the visitors. Diamond and Blackman both should have done better with first-half headers while Michael Paton missed the target completely after being sent clear on goal by Maguire. Inverness’ best chance fell to Shane Sutherland, but his shot was tipped away by Langfield who was largely untested. The monotony was finally brought to an end 15 minutes from time when substitute Pawlett turned away from Ross Tokely before beating Ryan Esson with a left-foot drive to seal a first win in nine league matches.
