As others have said a bit disappointed about shirts only being sold in club shop but apart from that seems to be a positive move especially club shop coming back under clubs control.

Edit: Was there any mention of what sort of money is involved?

the club would be absolutely insane not to have a replica 83 top as our next strip! can't wait

The fact they say there will be a 'heritage' logo makes me think they'll be doing something retro looking albeit with the Team Recruitment sign on the front.

Bayern Munich on their online shop have (or at least had) a retro version of their strip which was pretty much a direct replica of what they had in the eighties. Something like that for Aberdeen would fly off the shelves I reckon.

Brilliant news  ;D

As club shops (and profits) are coming back into AFC's control, which shops do others suggest AFC shirts should be sold?

Sports shops? It's shite that if I walk into Sports Direct in Aberdeen all I see is Hun, Tim, Man Utd and Chelsea tops. And that's what kids buy.

Do they? Where do they get the money? Parents? If you were a parent would you buy your son a rangers top at a sports shop instead of walking down to bridge street and getting an afc top?

No I wouldn't but most parents these days will give their brats whatever they ask for. And if they see all their school pals wearing these filthy tops they're going to want one too. And if that's all they see in their favourite shitty ned gear sports shops that's what many of them will buy.

Exactly what I was thinking. Add to that, supporting Rangers/Celtic/Man United/Chelsea/Arsenal etc etc appears to be more 'fashionable' than supporting a team getting humped 9-0, kids will be wanting to support teams that win trophies and or on the tv.

Two bits of great news in two days. Hopefully this is just the start of it all.

Has there been any mention of how much it is worth to the club yet? Either way, I look forward to seeing the new kits.

Yeah but how is selling AFC strips in sports shops going to turn around people's viewpoints on that one?

Your guess is as good as mine I'm afraid! However, I think it would only be a good thing if sports shops stocked AFC kits.

Lol, yes I know sports shops! However, local to me the biggest sports shop is JJB (and my zumba instructor looked at me like I had 2 heads when I said no way would I be setting foot in there to buy the footwear recommended!)

I do appreciate what you mean re walk into sports shop and see hun/tim/epl tops, but as the dad / mum / auntie / uncle then you would surely already have bought the kid an Aberdeen top from the clubshop/online?

Surely selling in sports shops would mean less profit for the club too  :-\

If kids see a Dons top hanging up next to the likes of Celtic, Rangers, Chelsea and Man Utd I think they're more likely to buy the Dons top and ultimately support them.

It's not as simple as supporting who your parents make you support. I know a lot of youngsters that went the opposite way just because. Kids can be stobborn and rebelious.

Kids are fickle. If they see Aberdeen along side all the big clubs it can only be a good thing for future support.

Totally disagree on this one, think 9 times out of 10 the kids would choose one of the other teams. The one out of 10 would be Aberdeen fans who go to the club shop anyway!

Got to admit this is the first season i didn't bother buying me Aberdeen tops. I used to buy them from a sports shop in Shetland off the rail. home and away strips, long sleeved with number and writing on the back. just couldn't be arsed with the rigmoral going on-line and paying extra for post and packaging. Bought a Scotland Fitba shirt instead and one of our supporter club shirts. That's well over a £100 they have lost out on. I know for a fact i ain't the only one. especially with Aberdeen doing so poorly you would think they would try a bit harder.

Aye.

I was more thinking "WTF the fuck is 'Zumba'" but alas I didn't care enough to ask.

Here is an e-mail I got from the club regarding the strips and only being available in club shops:

The main reason we do not sell the kits in other sports outlets is because it is extremely difficult to agree with them that they will not be allowed to retail them at any discount. For example, if we give the rights to JJB to sell our stock, they legally are able to sell a shirt at £20 if they wish which obviously is of no benefit to AFC

However, this is something the Club will continue to investigate with various sports companies and should the right deal be possible and advantageous to the Club and its fans then we will of course pursue it

Can't argue with that at all. Though surely they could arrange when a discount could be given. Glad to see the club not getting fucked over, but it does need more exposure.
