Bobby Peru Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 just been told we've drawn thistle away in the CIS. not the easiest draw we could get, i think, although they have been pumped the past two weeks. thoughts? Quote
BigAl Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 League Cup third round draw. Nicely sandwiched between our european games Quote
BobbyBiscuit Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 just been told we've drawn thistle away in the CIS. not the easiest draw we could get, i think, although they have been pumped the past two weeks. thoughts? My thoughts: I'm delighted! it's 30 secs from my flat, i can see into the stadium from my living room window! Quote
BigAl Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 Got to say that this is a hugely important game for us. We simply must get a least one decent cup run this season Quote
Bobby Peru Posted September 3, 2007 Author Report Posted September 3, 2007 aye, it's important we do get up and running. and i do think we'll be too strong for thistle - complacency won't strike twice. they've just been pumped by both dundee and accies, so clearly mccall hasn't learned much about defending since he got there. but the seeds of doubt will continue to sprout if we don't dispose of 'em comprehensively. it's nice and close to my hoose too - although i'll be on holiday. boo! kaj Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 Got to say that this is a hugely important game for us. We simply must get a least one decent cup run this season Agree. The cup form has been woeful recently. Not suitable for a club of our stature at all. But then I'm sure you all know that. As for beating Thistle - we should be able to do it, but we shouldn't underestimate them. I mean, we snap up guys they give frees to. Quote
Bobby Peru Posted September 3, 2007 Author Report Posted September 3, 2007 I mean, we snap up guys they give frees to. not strictly true, min. thistle wanted to keep deek - they just couldn't afford him. Quote
mizer Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 Eeek a return to last years nightmare zone Quote
BigAl Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 Eeek a return to last years nightmare zone Lightening never strikes in the same place twice - allegedly Quote
stuartmonroe Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 It's a game that we should win by at least a couple.... A chance to get last season's Firhill farce out of the system. As has already been said, we must start to deliver in the Cup's. These games are so often about getting an early goal and allowing the players and fans to settle. STAND FREE!!!! Quote
Drewsome Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 As an SPL club we have to know that any lesser league team we draw in a domestic cup is going to come gunning for us. Queen's Park made their season by beating us. This simply CANNOT happen this year. Quote
glasgow sheep Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 bring it on even better that we get to shove it right up the bin man and Bobby Biscuit didnae realise you were in the weeg. Should say hello to the GUASC in hubbards pre match Quote
Drewsome Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 Hey Glasgow Sheep, Always nice to connect isn't it? BB - hope you'll be in the Pittodrie Pub next game I'm over for. Missed meeting you last time and I have a pint there with your name on it. Quote

mizer Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 Right our glorious leader has been spraffing again RedWeb spoke with Jimmy Calderwood a short time ago to get his reaction. "It is another very very difficult draw even although we were one of the seeded teams. I don't think I have had an easy draw in any of the cup competitions since I have been manager at Aberdeen. WTF! Very very difficult! No, Drawing Real Madrid is very very difficult. Partick should be a victory! Quote
Reekie_Red Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 My thoughts exactly. They're not in the SPL for a very very good reason ... they're not good enough!! IF we play to our strengths, we should shove four or five past them without reply. But that's Aberdeen's downfall - against lesser teams, we just dinnae bother showing up Quote
BobbyBiscuit Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 bring it on even better that we get to shove it right up the bin man and Bobby Biscuit didnae realise you were in the weeg. Should say hello to the GUASC in hubbards pre match Actually saw you all on the train to Utd, first day of the season... that made my mind up about introducing myself! Drew - cheers, I'll have a babysham and cherryade please... Quote

"It is another very very difficult draw even although we were one of the seeded teams. I don't think I have had an easy draw in any of the cup competitions since I have been manager at Aberdeen. What a prize tool. Partick Thistle, on league position, are only above East Fife and Dunfermline. To say it is a hard draw is a complete joke. To say he has never had an easy draw is outrageous. You may have forgotten QP JC but you can bet your last dollar that we haven't. I also seem to remember an embarrassingly poor performance at Motherwell in a QF too. Quote
Leerichardson40yrds Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 But Calderwood is hardly going to come out and say "Partick Thistle? Brilliant, just what we wanted as they are a load of pish and we will horse them". He will obviously give Partick a bit of extra credit. I don't think that because Calderwood has said the draw isn't easy he deserves to be criticised for that. He has a point. Although we have had two shocking performances in the cup, we have had two nasty draws as well. Quote
Drewsome Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 You never speak Ill of your opponent. Plain & Simple. Quote
KGB Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Seems to me that JC is saying the right things albeit they are completely untrue. Quote
stuartmonroe Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 When we put our minds to it, we have probably suffered more cup 'upsets' than most Premier League clubs over the last 10-15 years. Stenhousemuir, Livingston (twice), Queens Park without thinking.... Any more....? Quote

KGB Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Ignores the fact that Livi were a far better side than us at the time of at least one of those results. Quote
