TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Tell that to Ricky Foster. That's right, folk want him to be not very good. When did he get elevated to god status to get cut down? Quote
Superstar Tradesman Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Who said anything about God-like status or wanting him not to be good? But you're going to have to go a long way to convince me that local guys such as Ricky Foster and Darren Mackie don't cop more flak because they're local lads than half the other (just as) shite dross that's passed through the doors of Pittodrie. In fact three times round a life-sized Stuart McCall statue, twice round the Trump course and out to the wind farm and back would still be short of the mark. Quote
TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Probably, but isn't the idea that they've to be good first and lambasted for that? Quote
Superstar Tradesman Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Not really. I'd say you just have to stand out from the crowd. Be that fame, fortune, success, brains, looks, skillset or whatever. I'd say being a premier league footballer you fall into a couple of those catagories, regardless of your talent or lack thereof. Quote
TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 So anyone who is in this "standing out from the crowd" group who is not universally hailed locally for their achievements is a victim of "tall poppy syndrome"? Quote
Superstar Tradesman Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Are you really struggling to grasp the concept of this universally understood term or are you just aiming to be mindnumbingly awkward? Quote
TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Are you really struggling to grasp the concept of this universally understood term or are you just aiming to be mindnumbingly awkward? Universally understood? If it's that universally understood, explain it then? I genuinely dont get wtf the fuck the need is to give this pish a name. Quote
rocket_scientist Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Universally understood? If it's that universally understood, explain it then? I genuinely dont get wtf the fuck the need is to give this pish a name. Awkwardness, it appears. A tall poppy is someone who has achieved and/or who is successful. They stand above the crowd. The chopping down of the tall poppy is a national sport in Australia and the UK. Fleet Street is built on it. Disparaging remarks towards the tall poppy is based on jealousy. The sick get a kick from a tall poppy being chopped down. It allows them to kid themselves by saying "see, they weren't any better than me". Quote

mizer Posted November 2, 2011 Author Report Posted November 2, 2011 RSPB Scotland has objected to proposals for an offshore wind farm near Aberdeen. A planning application for an 11-turbine wind farm off Aberdeen Bay was submitted to Marine Scotland in August. US billionaire Donald Trump has already complained about the wind farm plans affecting his golf resort north of Aberdeen. RSPB Scotland said the area was home to seabirds and rarer species, and more research was needed. Ian Francis, RSPB Scotland area manager for north east Scotland, said: "From an early stage, we have held many discussions with the developers, and we acknowledge the efforts they have made to reduce its scale and change the layout of the turbines, which has helped. "However, more planning, research and monitoring is needed to ensure we truly understand the impact this site may have on local birds. "The bay is an important area of many species. Since this is a European funded test centre, it is crucial that a thorough research programme is developed to help understand how this and the many forthcoming offshore wind farms can reduce their impacts on birds and other marine wildlife." tom_widdows Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 There is a big difference between 'we object' and 'we want more information' Fucking journalists stirring up shite out of a fairly standard request in these stypes of developments. Quote
glasgow sheep Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 RSPB and Trump would seem an unlikely alliance. Quote
Edinburghdon Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 Trump wont stop the turbine development going ahead, he's ploughed too much cash into the courses already to carry out his threat of abandoning his courses etc. It's merely idle threats to try and get his own way! As mentioned the RSPB aren't objecting merely trying to get more information. My understanding is that the turbine development is being designed in close cooperation with parties such as the RSPB etc so they're not going to prove to be a major stumbling block. Quote
Kowalski Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 Saw that Sarah Malone on Saturday at the Walker Cup. Wonder what the principal reasons behind her hiring were? Was the Donald behind it? Is she really from Peterheid? Somebody has told me that a certain member of the Dons board might be firing in about her. Quote
rocket_scientist Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 And might a certain poster reveal which board member might that be, without prejudice? Quote
mizer Posted January 18, 2012 Author Report Posted January 18, 2012 Tycoon Donald Trump has halted building work on a new hotel at his luxury golf course resort near Aberdeen in protest over plans to build a wind farm off the coast. Trump said plans for 11 turbines in Aberdeen Bay would spoil the sea views for his customers at Menie in Aberdeenshire. A decision on the wind farm is currently being made by Scottish ministers after a planning application was submitted last August. The European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre is a £150m joint venture by utility company Vattenfall, engineering firm Technip and Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group. The Trump Organisation said in a statement: “We intend to open the championship golf course at the end of June, well ahead of schedule. “All further plans for future development, including the hotel, are now on hold until the Scottish government makes a decision on the application for the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. “If the north east of Scotland is serious about tourism and creating a global golf destination it cannot allow the coastline to be ruined by an ugly industrial park directly off the shoreline.” Quote
glasgow sheep Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 What a crock of shit. You telling me the R&A will decide not to hold the open there because of some windmills miles out at see. He can fuck off with his blackmailing bullshit. It's all a fucking bluff anyway given the time and money he has put in. Perhaps he would prefer the turbines on land next to his course instead Quote
