ABERDEEN have failed with a sensational late bid to secure Scotland superstar James McFadden on a short-term deal.

SunSport can reveal that Dons boss Craig Brown sounded Faddy out last week over a possible move to Pittodrie.

He was left disappointed when McFadden turned down his offer.

The 28-year-old former Motherwell striker is out of contract at Birmingham City.

He's back fit after a cruciate knee injury kept him sidelined for much of last season. Faddy is a free agent after three years at Brum.

McFadden has just returned from two weeks' rehab in America and could still accept a new deal at St Andrew's, where he is training.

The striker can sign for a new club despite the close of transfer window but wants to make sure he's 100 per cent fit before committing to a new contract.

:-\ Aye ok

Love the quotes.

Exactly my reaction.......

If there was the slightest ounce of truth in this, then there would be quotes from Brown, Knox, Miller or at least player's agent.

I have no idea why we didn't publicly go for him.  It would be a win win situation for the club.  Sign him up and would instantly boost crowds, merchandise and some much needed PR.  He turns us down they can they say to the fans they do have some ambition etc rather than the shambles we think they are.

Craig Brown is happy with his Aberdeen FC squad

‘My team can climb up SPL’

ABERDEEN FC boss Craig Brown today claimed his side is ready to climb up the SPL table despite making no last-minute signings.

The transfer window closed on deadline day with no new arrivals at Pittodrie.

Aberdeen FC had been linked with an ambitious move for Scotland striker James McFadden. But the out-of-contract Birmingham City forward was said to have decided against a shock move to the North-east.

Probably just lifted straight from the Sun.

Club would have been shouting this from the roof tops if  this was true.

Indeed Jute, overpowering smell of shite about this but as Kow says, we still could go for him, not that he would even consider it but the paper has given him a wee bit of exposure to clubs willing to pay him.

As far as Brown is being happy with his squad is concerned, fuck.

Craig Brown today admits he DID attempt to sign James McFadden. Full story in today's @EveningExpress

Ok lets say its true, credit for trying to do so - but where was the alternative and where was the wages coming from and where have they went?

agree with all the above. Inept PR. Assuming it's a real story rather than the club just allowing themselves to be used for advertising the player's availability (or press pretending they have), they turn the lack of recruitment into an even bigger issue than it already was!
