The board want/need him to be a success because he's so cheap.

A lot of rumours about the players being rather unhappy with Lennon and Thompson's drinking, a fair amount of respect has been lost apparently.

Maybe he'll do a Pele this weekend.  We should head out on Saturday and buy him a drink or two.

Celtic could be forced to play Sion again in the Europa League after Uefa outlined plans to have the Swiss club reinstated.

European football's governing body is considering all options should the club be successful in their appeal against expulsion.

Sion defeated Celtic 3-1 on aggregate but were thrown out for fielding ineligible players.

Uefa may decide upon a five-team group, with Sion added to the line-up.

Options being explored by Uefa include cancelling all previous results in the group, putting Sion into the current group, or allowing them passage into the last 32 through a play-off.

Good to hear this but why do the Polis only report this at UEFA matches?  Why no action when 4000 of them are singing similar shit at Pittodrie or any other Scottish ground?

Celtic face a Uefa probe after Strathclyde Police notified its match delegate about fans' chants in their Europa League home win over Rennes.

A police spokesman said: "There were a number of instances during the game of singing offensive songs and inquiries are ongoing to detect the offenders."

Celtic say they are aware of the complaint but have not been contacted by Uefa about the 3 November game.

A club spokesman said: "We are currently looking into these claims."

It is understood that the case will be heard by Uefa on 8 December.

BBC Scotland attempted to contact Uefa on Saturday but are yet to receive a response.

At Celtic's annual general meeting last month, chief executive Peter Lawwell urged fans to stop singing pro-IRA chants after being "inundated" with complaints from their own supporters following their 2-0 defeat by Hearts at Tynecastle.

And Lothian and Borders Police announced they had launched an investigation into the "singing of sectarian songs" at that game.

Lawwell said at the club's annual general meeting: "Chants glorifying the Provisional IRA are totally unacceptable.

"It is an embarrassment to the club. We don't want it, we don't need it.

"It is wrong, and it is an embarrassment to the club and an embarrassment to the majority of supporters.

"We were inundated by complaints from our own fans after the game at Tynecastle.

"We have dealt with it at Celtic Park and we will do all we can to make sure it doesn't happen home or away.

"We don't want it, we don't need it. We have the best supporters in the world and hold that reputation dear."

In April, Uefa punished Rangers for two counts of "discriminatory behaviour" when they played PSV Eindhoven.

The sectarian singing meant the Ibrox club's fans were banned from travelling to their next European away game, the club was fined 80,000 euros (£68,000) and Rangers were handed a suspended ban on a second away game and warned they faced playing a home game behind closed doors if found guilty of the same offence within three years.

Uefa had fined Rangers following similar incidents in previous matches against Villarreal and Osasuna.

Two reasons:

[*]It's a UEFA competition they were playing in

[*]The SFA don't have the balls to do anything that happens during domestic matches

WTF do Grumpian Police do?  I know Funster "had a word" with them a couple of seasons ago about the bile they were chanting but don't suppose it counted as an official complaint but every time they come up we get 4000 singing this bullshit

Celtic are not likely to face punishment as a result of a Scottish Premier League investigation into offensive singing during their recent match against Hibernian, STV has learned.

SPL operations director Iain Blair confirmed on Monday that he was gathering evidence following a report from Strathclyde Police alleging pro-IRA singing by some of the home club’s fans at Parkhead.

Blair said that the match delegate, Frank Coulston, had been informed by senior police officer Eddie Smith but that more information had yet to be reviewed.

"Eddie has mentioned that there was pro-IRA chanting but we need to find out more about when it happened and what exactly went on,” Blair said.

"We also have to establish that Celtic, as I am sure they will have, co-operated fully with the police in the aftermath of this event."

STV understands that consideration of these factors, which relate to steps taken by Celtic to try to prevent offensive singing, means it is unlikely that further action taken when the investigation is concluded.

While no specific charge has been stated as being considered, the SPL Rules and Regulations has a section on unacceptable conduct, which details breaches of the rules.

The section (H7.4.3) states: “Disorderly conduct includes (i) conduct which stirs up or sustains or is likely or designed to stir up or sustain, hatred or ill will against or towards a group of persons based on their membership or presumed membership of a group defined by reference to a category mentioned in Rule H7.4.5 or against an individual who is or is presumed to be a member of such group; (ii) using threatening, abusive or insulting words or conduct; or (iii) displaying any writing or other thing which is threatening, abusive or insulting."

However, the regulations also stipulate what is expected of a club and Celtic are likely to have met the conditions stated.

Rule H7.5 states: “The Home Club in any Official Match must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, (i) good order and security; (ii) that policies and procedures have been adopted and are implemented to prevent incidents of Unacceptable Conduct; and (iii) that any incidents of Unacceptable Conduct are effectively dealt with, all at its Stadium on the occasion of an Official Match.”

STV has also learned that the specific songs in question may not be detailed in the match delegate's report. While some song or chants may be deemed to be in breach of the rules, reports are more likely to include general reference to “pro-IRA songs” or similar.

Celtic officials have publicly condemned offensive singing, with chief executive Peter Lawwell saying at the recent AGM that: "Chants glorifying the Provisional IRA are totally unacceptable.

"One, it is wrong, and it is an embarrassment to the club and embarrassment to the majority of supporters. We were inundated by complaints from our own fans after the game at Tynecastle.

"We have dealt with it at Celtic Park and we will do all we can to make sure it doesn't happen home or away.

"We don't want it, we don't need it. We have the best supporters in the world and hold that reputation dear."

In a separate case, Celtic have been informed by UEFA that a hearing will take place in early December to consider similar reports regarding a Europa League match against Rennes. While the European body begins disciplinary proceedings based on their delegates report, the SPL considers other factors before bringing any charge.

An interesting Scotland on Sunday Q&A with Neil Doncaster and Ian Blair about whether the SPL are soft on sectarianism:

http://www.scotsman.com/scotland-on-sunday/sport/football/soft_on_sectarianism_not_us_say_spl_1_1975952

They sound like a couple of half wits to me and disagree with UEFA going after Celtic.  ::)

That is awful. Just a series of meaningless platitudes and no attempt made to address the content of the questions.

Christ, the SPL is grim sometimes.

In the Record article they go on about their fans getting an award and that should be taken into consideration for the fine. Fact that when they were given the award their fans were singing their poisonous filth is completely ignored.

Uefa has charged Celtic with "the displaying of an offensive banner and setting off of fireworks by fans" during Thursday's match with Udinese.

The incidents during the Europa League Group I match were included in the match delegate's report.

Uefa's Control and Disciplinary Body will hear the case on 26 January.

Celtic have already imposed a lifetime ban on the fan they say was responsible for the banner and assaulting a steward at the Stadio Friuli.

Last week, Celtic decided not to appeal against the £12,700 Uefa fine for "illicit chanting" by some of their fans in the earlier Group I game against Rennes at Celtic Park.

Celtic supporter stabbed inside Inverness stadium

Police have appealed for information after a Celtic supporter was stabbed inside Inverness Caledonian Thistle's stadium on Saturday.

The 23-year-old man, from Glasgow, was taken to Raigmore Hospital following the incident.

He later left the hospital after the wound to his face was stitched.

The assault happened in the south stand, the away end, of the ground at the half-time interval of Celtic's Scottish Cup match with Inverness.

A Northern Constabulary spokesman said officers were investigating the incident and were examining CCTV footage from the stadium.
