BobbyBiscuit Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 Red Stars got their league season up and running with a good performance and more importantly, 3 points at Blairdardie this afternoon. The ref made a monumental cunt of things just one minute in when he gave a penalty to Accies for an inoccuous challenge from Red Stars keeper Christian. The twice taken penalty came to nothing as their lad cracked it against the post. After that it was all Red Stars with some fantastic football down the left hand side bringing a lot of joy in particular. Accies weren't happy with the pass and move philosophy of the Dons side and were struggling to deal with it, which was underlined when MacDonald's brilliant cross from the left was superbly met by Hopcroft on the half volley to put the Reds one up. The joy was short lived however when Accies equalised within a minute when a mix up between keeper and defence let them in for an equaliser. But Red Stars didn't let that get them down and they attacked from the kick off, pushing Accies back. But, the second didn't come until 10 mins before half time when a throw in from Accies to their keeper had Cathcart chase him down and a fantastic finish from a tight angle put Red Stars ahead. Accies tried to turn the tide but just couldn't stop the delightful midfield passing movements of Red Stars and when the ball dropped to MacDonald at a tight angle he drilled a half volley into the far corner for a two goal cushion. But Accies grabbed one back right at the end of the half when a cross was turned in at the far post. Accies came out in the second looking for blood and within five mins they had drawn level. But Red Stars rallied and got the ball on the deck and started their passing movements again and Accies had no answer. Brady and MacDonald had more efforts at goal but the fourth wasn't far away. Soutar, who had been outstanding down the left, ripped both wide midfielder and full back to cross for Hopcroft who finished superbly well for his second of the game. Accies came at Red Stars for the rest of the game but Red Stars stood tall and defended well and hit Accies on the counter very well and in the last few minutes Finnish striker Strandman powered a header into the top corner to put the game to bed. A well deserved victory for Red Stars who never really got out of 2nd gear. Next up... Dumbarton away. COME ON YE REDS!!!!! :ultras: :ultras: :ultras: Quote
BigAl Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 Nice one Bobby, you've obviously worked them hard in pre season. Keep up the good work Might be a job coming up for you shortly if this continues Quote
BobbyBiscuit Posted September 19, 2011 Author Report Posted September 19, 2011 Cheers Al, the lads have had a tough pre-season and we've had a few setbacks in that but they've done really well and I'm confident we're going to have a good season. Craig Brown will be disappointed to hear Accies had more corners than us, however... Quote

BobbyBiscuit Posted September 20, 2011 Author Report Posted September 20, 2011 Only fingered Thought your lads got well and truely rogered We'd probably give East Fife a better game than another team in red though... Quote
BigAl Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 We'd probably give East Fife a better game than another team in red though... Agreed. Told you there might be a bigger job coming up in a few weeks. Anyone daft enough to take it, would surely run the risk of being sectioned under the Mental Health Act though. Quote
Tyrant Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 Bobby, what's the cost of a seaosn ticket? I think I'll have some free time next season. Quote

Tyrant Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 Sounds just like pittodrie I'm starting to realise why a huge, fuck off stand was built between the pitch and the beach when there was never any chance of us filling it. Quote
