Aberdeen manager Craig Brown is considering sending experienced goalkeeper Jamie Langfield out on loan.

The 31-year-old is close to a return after an enforced rest period, having suffered a seizure in May, but Brown is concerned about a lack of practice.

"It's a bit premature to be thinking about putting him into the first team," said the Dons boss.

"An emergency 28-day loan might get him four or five games. But that has got to be at a suitable level."

Langfield found himself on the bench for Saturday's 2-2 draw with Kilmarnock after David Gonzalez's withdrawal meant a promotion for Jason Brown.

However, the former Scotland squad member is not yet ready for the rigours of Scottish Premier League action.

"Jamie still has his final procedure to undertake and that would eliminate him for another week," explained Brown.

"Once that's out of the way and he gets some games under his belt, it will be a three-way contest for the goalkeeper's position."

He shouldn't be in the bench if he can't go on.

The cynic in me sees farming Langfield out on loan stinks of penny pinching.

I wouldn't be bothered if I never saw Langfield in a Dons shirt again. Not good enough mentally.

Seems sensible enough. Wouldn't be too upset if I never saw Langfield in an Aberdeen shirt again but I suppose a short term loan deal is sensible for both parties.

This.

I expect he was on the bench as we have no other options  ::)

Pretty much my thoughts as well. Long since thought he's not good enough for us.

If he's not fit to play he shouldn't be on the bench. Simple as that.

Correct.

If Brown had dropped dead of an obesity induced heart-attack and we needed a sub keeper what would have happened? Langfield can't play so despite having a keeper on our bench someone from outfield would have had to go in thus making our club once again look like the completely amateur outfit that we are.

Sack the board.
