WILLIE MILLER insists Aberdeen have total trust in Craig Brown and has assured the under-fire manager he will not be sacked.

 

The veteran boss has won just one of nine games this season and has seen his side go out of the League Cup to Second Division East Fife.

 

But Pittodrie director of football Miller said: "Fans should ignore any talk of Craig being under pressure and in danger of being sacked.

 

"It's a load of scaremongering nonsense. We have a history of supporting managers through good times and bad and that will remain the case.

 

"The last week or so hasn't been pleasant whether you are a fan, director, manager, player or one of the many other people working tirelessly behind the scenes at Pittodrie.

 

"What we have always done in times of adversity is band together and make a united effort to improve our situation.

 

"Others have talked of Craig being under pressure, not us. He and Archie Knox are the most experienced managerial team anyone could have.

 

"We have total trust in them eventually delivering the winning Aberdeen team that we all yearn for. It's not as if their careers are full of periods like Aberdeen are going through at the moment.

 

"They are men who have known only success and you can be sure they will be determined to make the next few weeks more enjoyable for the Dons fans than the last few have been.

 

"It's time to look forward and concentrate on what can be done to improve our position in the SPL and get the team ready for an assault on the Scottish Cup in the new year.

 

"None of us are happy to see Aberdeen sitting in second bottom spot in the SPL after nine games. It's not where we want to be and it's certainly not where we expect to be at this stage but it's a retrievable situation."

WILLIE MILLER knows what it's like to be sacked as Aberdeen manager — and he insists there's no chance it will happen to Craig Brown.

 

The Dons legend was binned back in 1995 despite twice steering the club to the runners-up spot in the league and into two cup finals.

 

Now the man who collected 12 trophies as Aberdeen's greatest ever player is a director who helps decides who is hired and fired.

 

And despite the dismal start to the season he still has faith that Brown and assistant Archie Knox will bring the glory days back.

When were these good times  ;D

 

There is that but I was more thinking back to when Calderwood built a team that got into the last 32 of the (then) Uefa Cup and Milne's arse puckered up tighter than the noose that's currently round the neck of Scottish football rather than support Calderwood though these good times!

I thought Willie wasn't the Director of Football anymore? Is he not head of youth development or something?

Willie Miller's redefined role at the Scottish Premier League club.

 

He will hand first-team duties, such as contracts, to recently appointed chief executive Duncan Fraser.

 

Now as director of football development, Miller will concentrate on finding new talent for the team.

 

As part of the changes at Pittodrie, former Aberdeen midfielder Neil Simpson has been appointed to succeed the retiring head of youth academy Len Taylor.

 

And Miller will work closely with Simpson and Under-19 team coach Neil Cooper.

 

Miller told his club website: "In terms of the first team, Duncan Fraser will be working closely with Craig and Archie on all matters, including contracts.

"I will continue to work closely with Neil Cooper and our successful Under-19 set-up which has produced Chris Maguire, Michael Paton, Joe Shaughnessy, Clark Robertson, Peter Pawlett, Fraser Fyvie, Ryan Jack, Mitch Megginson and Nicky Low in recent times as first-team members.

 

"With the move to the new stadium and training facilities not that far away now, I intend to work closely with Neil to ensure our academy is fit for purpose and in the best position to take advantage of that move."

I believe that is the case.

 

Ah well, good to see some thorough journalism in the papers then. 

 

I would say that in our recent history we hang on to managers just a bit longer than other clubs would, meaning a bad run is left to linger on too long and another season will be beyond redemption.

I don't have a huge problem with what Miller has said and I'm not sure what others expected/hoped for him to say!?  I'm sure things will be looked at again at the end of the year if we're still struggling very badly.  No point in replacing the management team (yet?) as I doubt it'll make much difference.
