mizer Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/spl/3853199/Ill-NEVER-be-able-to-forget-the-boos-of-the-Dons-fans.html ZANDER DIAMOND has blasted the Aberdeen boo boys who drove him out of the club. The stopper quit the Dons in the summer after Pittodrie punters turned on him. Matters came to a head when he was jeered off after being subbed when he was crocked with two games of the season left. Diamond, 26, admits the entire episode soured his relationship with the only club he'd ever played for and made it easier to quit the north-east for Oldham. He said: "The time was right to move on. I'd had several great years there, having come through as a youth player. "I don't have regrets, but fans are fans — they can love you one minute then hate you the next. It was my time to get hostility off them and a minority singled me out. "You just need to deal with it, but the relationship went in the end. "I fell out of love with Aberdeen Football Club. I spoke to the directors and the chairman and it was best for both parties to go our separate ways. "I left on a low note though. I got subbed in the St Johnstone game with an injury and the stadium went into a rapture of boos. "Craig Brown said he was appalled, but that moment will stick with me forever. "You move on though, and it was a learning curve for me getting booed off." Diamond's misery was to continue as he agreed to join Hearts, only for the move to fall through over doubts about his ankle. He added: "In football you learn not to take things for granted. "I met Jim Jefferies in March and I was looking forward to working with him, but they said my ankle wasn't fit enough. "I'm not going to run Hearts down. Jim did tell me about the way they work. He said it doesn't all happen in Scotland, it needs to go to Lithuania and things like that. "It got drawn out so long I knew something wasn't right and when it didn't happen I just got on with it." Diamond instead joined League One outfit Oldham, with boss Paul Dickov impressed by his leadership qualities on and off the park. He was handed the captain's armband less than a month into the season and is loving life again with the Latics. Diamond added: "Coming down to Oldham was a fresh start, a good test for me and a great platform. "I'm 26 and it was something I needed in my career, a break from Scotland. "When I signed I was the oldest player which was a bit weird, but the manager said I was here for off the park as well, to help the youngsters because it is a really young squad. "There's a determination to prove my injury isn't going to come back. Hopefully I can prove wrong the doubters who said I was finished." Quote
BobbyBiscuit Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Old news, that was his interview from BBC Alba at half time of the Hibs game at Easter Road. Quote
Penfold Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Booing fans in the 2nd last game of the season "drove him out the club" yet he'd agreed to sign for Hearts in March Quote
BigAl Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Fucking deluded prick...... Totally one sided article.....so he admits to agreeing to join Farts in March and wonders why he was booed after that No mention of the fact that frankly his performances were at best shite. If he was so keen to get out of Scotland why was he going to join Farts...... nothing to do with the money Plug The only bit of the article I can agree with is the bit about best for both parties to go their seperate ways. Captain of Oldham within a month of joining Anyone bothered to check the league tables and see how effective his leadership skills have been in terms of results Quote
Tyrant Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Whilst I'm no fan of booing players that wear out shirt, in their defence he was playing shite for us. Quote

Generally with the goals coming from balls sailing over Diamond's head as he has mis-read another punt from the opposition keeper... Quote

Generally with the goals coming from balls sailing over Diamond's head as he has mis-read another punt from the opposition keeper... Judging by the article, that's not the only thing that's sailed over his head this year (i.e. the reason the fans were boo-ing). Quote
tlg1903 Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 The guy was a good prospect and its a shame how it turned out. Its all his own fault though, he has a shocking attitude when it comes to trying to develop as a player. When he was younger he was alright if you put him next to any kind of leader figure eg seve or anderson. As he's got older he wants to be the big man and does not have the capacity for it. He clearly learnt very little from playing alongside two very good centre halfs Quote
Kowalski Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Once Anderson left, Diamond was a rabbit caught in headlights. Quote
Superstar Tradesman Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 When one of the best penalty box defenders ever to have played the game offers you advice, you really should listen to it rather than laugh it off. Quote
manc_don Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 sounds like different season, same old shit then from Zander Having spoken to a mate of mine who is an Oldham season ticket holder, he can confirm Zander is shite Quote
TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Deluded fucking cunt. This article was in the Record. Minus several life points whoever found the odious cunts ramblings. Quote
McMaster Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 He shouldny have gotten booed off in my opinion. Maybe it because he has gone but he did put a lot in for Aberdeen in years gone by and deserves credit for that. Looked like a quality player at one stage. But especially the last season he was gash and didnt look like he gave two fucks. Funny how he seems to be playing well doon sooth. If the case was he wanted to leave he should have put in a formal transfer request and left ages ago rather than bugger us about! Especially saying all this crap. Is he trying to upset an already upset applecart?! Sometimes if you cant say something positive keep your bloody mooth shut. Quote
