BobbyBiscuit Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 When you "invest" money in something you don't forfeight any right to getting that money back. Often you would be issued a number of shares (to the value you "invested") which you could sell at any time or in this case they have the right to have their money repaid over time. "Finance investment is putting money into something with the expectation of gain". In this case the gain isn't shares which may go up in value, or interest paid on the investment. The gain is from the plan hope that the money will allow the club to continue to operate which protects their previous investments in the company. Nobody ever said they donated the money. They're not investing in the same way as the supporters do, which I think was Manc's original point. And if we want to be pedantic, considering it was them who led us into this mess, it's the least they could do. Let's not paint them as knights in shining armour. Quote
Penfold Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 I wasn't painting them as anything. There is plenty to have a go at them about but moaning that they didn't invest this money is incorrect. Manc's point was that they need to invest in the team, which they haven't. My response wasn't to him but to those dismissing these loans as investments. Supporters don't invest money. They pay for a (shite) product. Quote

Penfold Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 I do know, thanks. I'm a shareholder myself. Anyway in that case they are a shareholder and do invest money in the same way as the board do (on a much smaller scale). I think we've drifted from the original point. Quote

Your point being that supporters don't invest money. They clearly do. As well as time and emotions. Quote
mizer Posted December 2, 2011 Author Report Posted December 2, 2011 Quite a lot of us invest in the youth system via the Red lottery, yes you can get money back but most times I have won its been ploughed back in. But anyway.......so we all argree no real progress has been made over the last year. Quote

Time and emotions, yes. Shareholders invest money. Yes you can be a supporter and a shareholder but being a supporter doesn't mean you invest money in the club (which is what was being suggested). I don't know how much clearer that can be. You said the board don't invest money in the same way as supporters do. The only supporters who invest money are shareholders, in which case the board do invest money in the same way only on a larger scale. Quote
Tyrant Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 I bought a shite product from Nike the other week. I lost my receipt so I sent it back to Nike directly. They gave me a cheque to the value of what I'd spent on it. Wonder how much I'd get back if AFC football club did that. Would be interesting to see what I've spent on the club. Quote
stubo72 Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 Back on topic : No visible progress has been made under Brown. Crowds are dwindling (I haven't been able to justify spending 20-30 quid to watch the mince we produce for over a year now) and we are still second bottom in a league where every other team is discernably poorer than they were last season. Scottish football sucks and we suck harder than almost every other team in the SPL. Could never bring myself to support another Scottish team rather than AFC, but have lost almost all interest in the SPL. Can't even be bothered watching our 'highlights' on the interweb. Even when we win we still look pretty shite. Bah. Quote
mizer Posted December 5, 2011 Author Report Posted December 5, 2011 One week on, definitely no progress. Quote
