glasgow sheep Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 Story #1 http://www.statepress.com/2012/03/12/senate-judiciary-committee-endorses-controversial-contraceptive-bill/ The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 6-2 Monday to endorse a controversial bill that would allow Arizona employers the right to deny health insurance coverage for contraceptives based on religious objections. Arizona House Bill 2625, authored by Majority Whip Debbie Lesko, R-Glendale, would permit employers to ask their employees for proof of medical prescription if they seek contraceptives for non-reproductive purposes, such as hormone control or acne treatment. “I believe we live in America. We don’t live in the Soviet Union,” Lesko said. “So, government should not be telling the organizations or mom and pop employers to do something against their moral beliefs.” Lesko said this bill responds to a contraceptive mandate in the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act signed into law March 2010. “My whole legislation is about our First Amendment rights and freedom of religion,” Lesko said. “All my bill does is that an employer can opt out of the mandate if they have any religious objections.” Story#2 http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/rick-santorum-wants-ban-hardcore-pornography-222833811.html Rick Santorum wants to put an end to the distribution of pornography in the United States. "America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography," Santorum's official website reads. "Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking." The former Pennsylvania senator states that, "as a parent, I am concerned about the widespread distribution of illegal obscene pornography and its profound effects on our culture." Santorum criticized the Obama administration for turning "a blind eye ... to the scourge of pornography" and for refusing to enforce obscenity laws. "If elected President, I will appoint an Attorney General who will do so," Santorum writes. "While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum Administration." Quote
mizer Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 And you left out Mitt Romney - the favourite to stand against Obama. He want America to stay in Iraq, he wants the US to attack Iran, expand Guantanamo, opposed to cutting greenhouse gases, "avidly pro-life" and would want doctors jailed if they conduct abortions, like Santorum wants to limit the use of contraceptives, member of the NRA, blamed the Virginia Tech college massacre on pornography and he also feels the pain of the unemployed as he is also currently unemployed (with $250m in the bank and getting funds)! Kowalski Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 I know Obama hasn't quite set the heather on fire but these fuckwits that are fighting each other to win the Republican vote appear to be nothing other than horrible bastards. Hope they don't get in! Quote

I thought I'd just start it off with the two I heard today on the News Quiz. Obviously there is potential for this thread to challenge the Huns thread. The Republican Primary campaign is surely a joke, these guys can't be for real, can they? Quote
Madbadteacher Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 Emmm, my wife's mother thinks they are "too moderate" to be elected and than Obamananananana is a jewish plant! Quote

Truly scary stuff. The republicans arent the really scary part. That is reserved for the millions of Yanks who support them no matter what. Many if not the majority base their current affairs knowledge on what their TV tells them so if Fox news says Obama is XY or Z then thats good enough for them. The danger of living in a country which still has a pledge of allegiance citing God, has 'in god we trust' written on their money, and continues to base their laws and rights on a document written in 1791. Land of the free so long as you have money and connections etc Quote
glasgow sheep Posted March 28, 2012 Author Report Posted March 28, 2012 After slagging American politics I've just switched off Newsnight where we had the story of a Government minister telling folk to go and fill jerry cans with petrol in case of a strike that hasn't been called and a Labour MP trying to do anything to avoid saying whether he thinks the tanker drivers should strike or not. Meanwhile at the top of the political tree we have David Cameron making up a story about the last time he bought a pasty and Eds Milliband and Balls going to a Greggs to buy a sausage roll to apparently demonstrate the injustice of vat on pasties and to illustrate just how real they are keeping it. Even by American standards that's an embarrassing level of political debate. Quote

Andrew Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 I never really understand why people care about USA domestic policies. Clearly if they decide to invade Iran it would have terrible consequences for all. But if they want a flat rate of tax, the freedom die not have health care, great divide in wealth etc. then so be it. Couldn't give a fuck about Americans residents. Quote
dave_min Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 As much as I like sausage rolls, I don't really get how they ever managed to get round paying tax on them before. There's a Greggs shop in Leeds now. Quote
glasgow sheep Posted March 28, 2012 Author Report Posted March 28, 2012 I had to laugh when I saw that clip And all the while they never even voted against the cut in the top rate of income tax Anyway I digress Some Rick Santorum Quotes, and why it may well matter that idiots like this could become the most powerful man in the World: Re-spinning the Crusades Quote: "The idea that the Crusades and the fight of Christendom against Islam is somehow an aggression on our part is absolutely anti-historical. And that is what the perception is by the American Left who hates Christendom. ... What I'm talking about is onward American soldiers. What we're talking about are core American values." (South Carolina campaign stop, Feb. 22, 2011) Rejecting the very idea of "Palestinians" Quote: "All the people who live in the West Bank are Israelis, they're not Palestinians. There is no 'Palestinian.' This is Israeli land." (Campaign stop in Iowa, Nov. 18, 2011) I think the Democrats are actually worried he (Obama) may go to Indonesia and bow to more Muslims You know, Mitt [Romney], I don't want to go to a trade war, I want to beat China, I want to go to war with China and make America the most attractive place in the world to do business Quote

Meanwhile the country they supposedly run is in a panic over non-existant fuel shortages and pie tax inflation. Quote
