AFC Needs You !

DST applauds the follow-up statement issued by AFC on 28th June. Our discussions with AFC representatives have confirmed that the AFC board is unanimous in its continuing position to give sporting integrity priority over important financial considerations.

DST fully endorses the Board’s position to vote against a Newco joining the SPL, and not to support the proposals, leaked last week, to parachute the Newco into Division 1, rather than applying the existing rules.

The AFC stance is in accordance with the views of AFC supporters and is consistent with DST’s previous statements. However, DST is concerned that the supporters of other clubs are potentially being misled by their respective boards in that, despite communicating that the views of their supporters, and sporting integrity, are paramount, some boards are, in fact, seeking to support proposals that are contrary to their fans’ wishes, and their publicly stated positions.

DST strongly encourages all supporters to request clarity from their board as a matter of urgency, given the various meetings taking place this week.

DST supports some of the changes proposed last week where they will benefit Scottish football as a whole. However, DST does not support these changes being introduced, and rushed through, as an expedient solution for the benefit of just one team, where the team in question does not actually exist yet and, potentially, does not meet the criteria for admission to the league concerned.

DST’s desire throughout this situation has been to see the applicable justice prevail and would remind the SPL that this was their stated position, as expressed by Neil Doncaster, earlier in this saga i.e. that the SPL would act without favour or prejudice, by applying the rules as they stand, as the only action they could take.

With regard to AFC, DST has been heartened to note the recent positivity and goodwill emanating from supporters toward the club as such feelings have been missing in recent years. Whilst we respect the opinions of all supporters, and acknowledge that some AFC fans may cease attending matches were Newco to be seen to have been unfairly parachuted into Division 1, DST’s view is that it would be subsequently unfair to punish our club, for the actions of other clubs.

Therefore, DST continues to encourage all AFC supporters, who reasonably can, to purchase season tickets, or just attend home games, and provide as much support as possible in these critical times for AFC, to capitalise on the current goodwill and togetherness.

To that end, DST will be working with AFC to do all we can to make the Ross County game on 11th August a sell-out, as this would be a great signal to send that it is a “New Don” for AFC and everyone connected to the club.

Where in Stewart Milnes statement does he actually say Newco should go to division 3.

He stated that any newco must apply to the sfl as any other club would do.

Unless you can think of any other club that has gone direct into any sfl other than 3rd Div then I'm quite happy accept he means they must enter the 3rd div.

Furthermore DST have clearly had direct talks with afc and are explicit in their view that afc are against any proposal that sees Seveco entering anything other than Div3

That's taking cynicism to a whole new level there Jute.  Milne has made it perfectly clear that AFC's stance is Newco should have to apply to the SFL as any other new team would have to.

I'm with Jute, I'd have preferred Milne to say that newco should be starting at the bottom rung of the SFL.  His current statement is open to interpretation and caveats.  If he wants them in Division 1 or Division 3 then his statement remains the same.

Precisely how I read it

AFC for once are doing the right thing and showing some backbone, they can't say "Rangers should start in Division 3" because that doesn't cover the fact that they're not certain to get entry to Division 3. If a space opens up teams like Spartans and Linlithgow Rose can apply, it would be wrong for him to assume the NewHuns would get that space.  But then, it doesn't matter what he says because some will never be happy with it.

I'm not.

The fact the DST put out the statement they did reassures me afc want Seveco in Div3.

They will vote against any reorganisation designed to parachute seveco into div1 and deny them entry to the SPL.

edit: absolutely BB

I think cynicism is healthy of SM statements if you see the hooses he builds and compare it to the way SMG describe them.

Jim Spence stating todays DR story is bullshit (I'm not posting it as even by their standards it is unmitigated effluence) and also that afc are at the forefront of driving a No Vote to both SPL and Div 1 entry.  JS is one of the few journos to come out with any credit in this whole affair.

For once afc are doing the right thing which will make it hard to turn my back on them if the rest of scottish football bends over and spreads their cheeks.

Remember this is the end game and media were always going to ratchet up the bullshit before any vote

Have faith.

Did the SFA/SFL div 1 proposal even consider the possibility that Sevco might not get promoted at the first attempt? Or are they confident enough that they could engineer that promotion if they were struggling? Seeing the desperation that the SFA has for there to be a successful Rangers surely brings into question the integrity of referees.

If they were struggling in any way the governing bodies in this country have shown they will stop at nothing to try and get them back to their "rightful place" at the top of the SPL. The Raith Rovers chairman seems to be the only one who has realised this probability.
