Getting older

I rejected organised religion early doors. Never believed the church stuff. But I made a conscious decision to read the Bible, age 15 or 16. It was a good read actually. I thought it wise to see what the fuss was about before slamming the door shut for life. So I considered myself an atheist for 20 years, which I don't now. Still despise all "religions" but I guess when you close the door on the state-sponsored devices, it kind of forces you to create your own belief system (or religion).

 

For me, the objective of life is very simple; to die without regrets.

 

Seems that there's a lot of regret and reflecting on "the good old days" in here. That's sad.

 

Its natural for humans to think back to other times. That's not to say one isn't enjoying life now, but that your life in its present format, is a culmination of past events that have shaped and formed your present life. To think of those moments and by having them in the first place, is a blessing. I have fond memories of various events throughout my life, but i don't long for any of them back and I always 'live' in the present.

 

Life to me is one big lesson, you learn from something, you grow, you learn again and then you grow further.  I think that's why older people appear much wiser, because they have experienced life and learned from it. Its not wrong to regret something, but rather than wallow in it, learn from it.

To live life without regrets you have to do it in a way that creates good memories, nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that jazz.

 

If you live your life in that way then every time you look back and remember something it will be in the good old days, if they weren't good then you may regret doing the things you did to make them not so good.

 

As long as your mind doesnt perpetually live in the good old days then its all good. If you do then its probably dementia.

Strikes me that a number of them are ages with myself so thought I'd dig up this old thread and throw it out there........whats your thought on getting older ?

Absolutely great ,we are  of an age that we were all in our Pomp When the reds were in their pomp 76 -90.

The youngsters don't know what they've missed. I am of the hope we can make some sort of return to our domestic hay day prime.

One of my best mates needed to drive south last night to join his wife.

 

His father-in-law died this morning and his mother-in-law (his carer) is very poorly with pneumonia.

Fat , diabetes, arterial fibulation, gall bladder taken out , stomach byepass,

Still have most of my teeth & 50 % of my hair , on mare proscribed drugs than most

Never smoked , still eat like a horse , unless my appetite is good

Getting older 59 on Februar.well I'm not taking it too well every day I wake up the door into eternal darkness creaks  opens that bit more

 

From running 20 mins for 4 miles sub 16 mins for 5k many times to now struggling to break 20 mins for that 5k that's what getting older does VO2 max depreciated means keeping the pace up becomes impossible.

 

Viagra becomes a must but the wife needs to sign  a form first with that promise..

 

Movement early morning isn't as easy as it once was when everything was done 100 mph ..

 

I can never turn the clock back but I've experienced loads of good and bad in my life but nothing will give me the high of May 1983.

I wish the younger generation of Aberdeen fans can experience a triumph like that don't say never as I remember as a 10 year old walking down merkand road thinking how great that would be if Aberdeen could win a European trophy but that was just a wish thought it would never happen .

You lads deserve it for all you have been through the last 15-20 years .
