manc_don
Not often you read this...and don't ask what paper this came from... KILMARNOCK boss Kenny Shiels will be looking to do the dirty on his boyhood heroes when Aberdeen visit Rugby Park tomorrow. The 56-year-old has revealed he grew up supporting the Reds long before Alex Ferguson arrived at Pittodrie to make them a force at home and abroad. Back in 1970 he listened to the radio and cheered as Eddie Turnbull’s side shocked Celtic 3-1 in the Scottish Cup Final. And Shiels admits he still has a soft spot for the dandy Dons. He said: “We’re still small fry compared with Aberdeen. They are one of the biggest clubs. “When I was a kid my dad told me to pick a team in Scotland and England. “I wasn’t allowed to choose Rangers or Celtic. He didn’t want us branded one or the other as you could be in trouble in Northern Ireland then. “So myself and all my brothers picked Aberdeen. “Bobby Clark was the keeper, Joe Harper up front – I remember all those guys. The wide player was Arthur Graham. Martin Buchan played in the team too. “In 1970 my English team was Chelsea. So it was great for me when they both won their cups that year. “Aberdeen beat Celtic 3-1, Harper got the first one and Derek McKay scored the other two while Chelsea beat Leeds after a replay. I just thought that was brilliant, unbelievable.” Craig Brown is hoping to bring a trophy to Pittodrie for the first time since 1995 and Shiels believes it’s not a mission impossible. He said: “Can they get back to that level? I think they can. They’re a great club. A one-club city with a big catchment area is great and they’re undefeated since the first game at Celtic. “I see them as resilient and experienced and they’ve added speed to their attack with Ryan Fraser, Niall McGinn and Johnny Hayes. “They look like a team that’s invested for not only the top six but also the European positions.” Killie are third in the SPL but Shiels believes the Dons will eventually overtake them due to their superior resources. He said: “I think Aberdeen, Hearts and Dundee United will break from the rest – Hibs, too. “Ourselves and four or five others have to try to steer clear of relegation. The big city clubs are the ones you’d expect to be up there and they normally are.”

BigAl
Out although only ten miles away, refused to give Killie a penny of my money (unless a cup tie and split gate) after they abstained in the Sevco vote. Hope we gub them, but would probably take a one each draw right now.

Azteca1903
Brilliant second half, three very well-worked goals and outplayed a thoroughly decent side.
jmo
Very good, particularly the second half. A wee bit sloppy in the first but still looked the better team. Second half was similar to the St Johnstone match. Outplayed Kilmarnock. Some brutal tackles on Fraser today, surprised tere wasn't a red at the end. Positive performance though.
