Tyrant Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 What can be done to address our glaring ineffectiveness at corner kicks and set pieces from a similar area? We have a wee bit of height in the team yet we never seem to be able to do anything from them. Off the top of my head I can't remember scoring from corners at all this season although I haven't checked and may be wrong. I do have a poor memory. We're doing a lot of attacking this season and I'd wager that we're getting more corners this season then by the same point in previous campaigns but we're not taking advantage. I don't know if it's because it's not something we focus on in training or because our players are just shite at heading the ball or if the coaching of this particular area is shite but either way I think there's a huge amount of room for improvement. mini59dons Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 How about getting a big defender (say Cadger) to start running in and out of the defense, get the rest of the team to follow him like a snake, thereby confusing the opposition defense and scoring easily? Quote

mizer Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 Fraser has been taking a lot of them lately and he does not get enough pace onto it which makes a lot of them easy to collect by the keeper. Quote

baggy89 Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 Bring back Ebbe! Other than that a player who is a set peice specialist. In the last ten years supporting Cheltenham I could have counted the number of times we scored from a corner on one hand. Billy Jones this season is a revelation, while he may be limited as a footballer his set peice delivery is fantastic and he has a 100% record in one corner of Whaddon Road. Quote
Penfold Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 Fraser has been taking a lot of them lately and he does not get enough pace onto it which makes a lot of them easy to collect by the keeper. This is the main reason although it's not limited to Fraser. Every one of our crosses seems to be "floated" in which never work. Too easy to defend. Crosses need to have pace as much as accuracy. glasgow sheep Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 We have been shit at set pieces, not just corners, for ages. I'm just glad we seem to be able to take throw ins reasonably well these days. Quote
Stewart Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 Was it the game at EEP where no one seemed to know who was taking the corners at one point? Osbourne stepped and it was fairly shite. Quote
Jute Posted November 3, 2012 Report Posted November 3, 2012 Our set pieces have been shit for a while. None of them look like they have been practiced on the training ground. Especially the short corner pish we tried against Dundee. Quote
