mizer Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aberdeen-hitkid-declan-mcmanus-set-1524150 ABERDEEN kid Declan McManus is set to go out on loan – with Dundee and Partick Thistle heading the queue to land the hot striker. The 18-year-old tops the scoring charts in the SPL Under-20 league with 15 goals in 10 games and has been banging on the door for a Dons first-team place. McManus has watched team-mates Ryan Fraser and Cammy Smith break into the starting line-up but his opportunities have been limited due to the form of star striker Niall McGinn. The hitkid signed a new two-year deal earlier in the season but has been restricted to just five sub appearances this term. He has asked to be allowed to go out on loan and SPL strugglers Dundee and First Division title-chasers Partick Thistle have made their interest known. Dons boss Craig Brown said: “It has been unfortunate for Declan that McGinn has been in such good form. We also have Scott Vernon and Rory Fallon back from injury so there are good provisions in that area of the pitch. “It’s meant Declan has had to be patient and wait for his chance. I’d understand if he was frustrated because he wants to be playing. “If a loan possibility arose we would not be adverse to letting him go out – if the club he was going to was right and we felt it would be beneficial to the player and to ourselves. “Declan is a very promising young player. His goal record in the Under-20 league is remarkable and it’s obvious he is a natural finisher. “People have raved about Tony Watt this year, and rightly so, but Declan scored more goals last season in the youth league. “We’ve got high hopes for him but it could be in his interest to get some first-team football under his belt.If he got games at a good level we would be getting back a more experienced and accomplished player and that could only be good for everyone involved.” His agent Jim Harkins said: “Declan has been chomping at the bit to play and it if wasn’t for the way McGinn has been doing I’m sure he would have been involved more. He scored 37 goals in the calendar year with the youth team and is as good a finisher as anyone his age. “There’s no doubt he could go to a SPL club and score goals in the second half of the season. He would be an asset wherever he went and Aberdeen would get the benefit in the long run.” Aberdeen would only block any move if they were to be raided during the transfer window. Quote
Jute Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 Bugger that means we are not getting shot of Fallon. Would rather see McManus get a run than watch Fallon plod about for 90 minutes. Quote

This McManus apart from a bit appearance here and there off the bench hasn't had a chance in the first team. Surely we should have given him more of a chance to prove himself prior to deciding he'd benefit fom a loan spell elsewhere Quote

Especially keeping an oaf like Fallon in the squad ffs. Quote
maverick sheep Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 I'd like to think this indicates a desire to bring someone in this window, and it's a case of letting any fringe player there's interest in go and free up a spot. Doubt anyone would want Fallon on loan. Quote
TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 I still think with a pair of productive wingers Fallon could be an asset. Quote
glasgow sheep Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 I still think with a pair of productive wingers Fallon could be an asset. As long as we are in the cup he would seem to be regardless Quote
Tyrant Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 I still think with a pair of productive wingers Fallon could be an asset. Agreed. I like him and think he's vastly underrated. Quote
Reekie_Red Posted January 11, 2013 Report Posted January 11, 2013 Fallon's a bit of a luxury player to be honest. Has scored some absolutely incredible goals for us. But nowhere near often enough!! Quote
