BBC saying we're definitely wanting Flood, and also Robson. Robson in particular would be a massive waste of a wage imo.

Harkins is also available but looks off to Helen. Surprised we're not being linked to him yet again.

We have been by some agent on Twitter...

1we need a midfield that has SPL experiene don't we? (And I don't mean one season of a few games as sub at 17-20yo. No criticism on the young lads, just being realistic)

Flood and Robson fit the bill?

If we can't afford beter (which likely we can't) then I'm not going to say no to Barry or Willo (still like the look of Vigurs more, but then again no doubt so do clubs that can offer a fuck-load more moolah than we)

ABERDEEN are close to signing Barry Robson and Willo Flood.

The Dons are in talks with the duo who have been team-mates at three different clubs – Dundee United, Celtic and Middlesbrough.

Robson offered his services to his hometown club in January such was his desire to come home but the Dons budget couldn’t stretch to signing him at that time.

The 34-year-old went to Sheffield United instead and played 17 games.

Now, though, boss Derek McInnes is desperate to land him – and Flood, 28 – as part of his Reds revolution.

Scotland ace Robson cut short his three-year deal at Vancouver Whitecaps after just 11 months – citing family reasons for wanting to return to the UK.

He held talks with former manager Craig Brown about joining Aberdeen in January but there was no room in the budget and he headed to Sheffield United, where he played 17 games as the Blades came up short of promotion in the League One play-offs.

But Dons boss Derek McInnes is ready to offer the 17-times capped midfielder the chance to finally play for his hometown club.

McInnes is looking to team Robson up with his old team-mate Flood for a third time after the pair linked up at Dundee United, Celtic and Middlesbrough.

Flood is also a free agent and Aberdeen view the 28-year-old as the ideal man to inject energy into the engine room.

The midfield schemer also has options in the SPL and in England but has been sold on a move north after speaking to the Dons at the end of the season.

McInnes is also keen on former St Johnstone charge Murray Davidson but knows Aberdeen are down the pecking order as the Saints man is weighing up bids from Ipswich and Rangers.

The Dons boss is tracking Falkirk star Lyle Taylor – as are Hibs – but both look set to be scuppered by Championship outfit Middlesbrough.

Boro manager Tony Mowbray has been monitoring the 23-year-old hitman, who bagged 29 goals for the Bairns last year, since last summer, when he rattled a hat-trick past the Riverside men in a pre-season friendly.

Mowbray is expected to take a £250,000 punt on the Londoner which would blast the Dons and the Easter Road men out of the running.

McInnes will turn his attentions elsewhere and aims to have the majority of his signings in place for the return for pre-season training on Wednesday, June 26.

The gaffer has warned his players to remain in shape – before they immediately head for a gruelling boot camp in England.

The Dons will spend a week being put through their paces at Warwick University where McInnes will lay the foundations for the new season.

The former St Johnstone gaffer wants his side to be the fittest in the SPL and the squad has been warned their surroundings down south will be far from plush.

No.2 Tony Docherty said: “It will be effectively a boot camp. The accommodation there might not be the most salubrious – but that’s okay, it helps with a bit of team bonding.”

McInnes’ squad already got a taste of the new manager’s plans towards the end of last season.

He imposes high-intensity training sessions at match tempo and he will not leave anyone behind when the hard work starts at the end of the month.

He said: “The players have a training programme to ensure when they come back they can hit the ground running.

“For the two weeks after the season has finished it is case of resting players and letting them recover.

“But after the second week they have a programme. We have made them aware of the responsibility to come back fit.

“Ideally we will have all of the new arrivals in place for the start of pre-season but we know it doesn’t always work out that way.”

No keen or Robson as he looked slow and off the pace in MLS games I watched last season so suspect he will be well off the pace in SPL.

Not a fan of Floods either but he is better option than Hughes or Clark.

Aberdeen hope to complete the signing of former Scotland midfielder Barry Robson on Monday.

The 34-year-old ended the season with Sheffield United after almost a year in Canada with Vancouver Whitecaps.

Robson had hoped to sign on at his hometown team in January, but budget constraints prevented former manager Craig Brown completing a deal.

Now new boss Derek McInnes aims to add Robson to his midfield having made Willo Flood his first summer signing.

Flood, who left Dundee United at the end of his contract, and Robson would be teaming up for the fourth time in their careers having been together at Tannadice, Celtic and Middlesbrough.

Inverurie-born Robson, who began his career with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, made 18 appearances for Sheffield United after joining the Blades in February.

However, he was unable to prevent them missing out on promotion from League One after a play-off semi-final defeat by Yeovil during which Robson went off injured before half-time in the first leg and did not appear in the second.

Wonder how much we've had to spunk away to get rid oh him a year early ::)

However another step in the right direction in clearing the decks

A fair few quid I reckon. But it's still a positive move. He's useless to have available and it sends a clear message to the rest of the team.
