Don't know if anyone has been following this story but needless to say it is a completely iniquitous charge that will fail to do what it claims, is impossible to enforce properly, and will hit those with the least and continue the Tory theme of divide and rule.

Of course NuLabour set the country on this path and are doing very little to stop the Tories at present.  Despite their rhetoric they failed to oppose it in Parliament, have refused to repeal it if they win the GE and have even refused to follow the SNP stance of getting their councils to prevent evictions due to the bedroom tax (presumably only because the SNP thought of it first and not because they don't believe it will work). This on the back of their support for the Tories in retrospectively re-writing the law to force people to work for nothing and refusing to vote against the Iraq War or Trident at Holyrood and you wonder what purpose they serve any more.

Only way to prevent more of the same neo-liberal US style crap is to vote Yes next year, but of course you know that.

Anyway a couple of good articles, and comments after them too, on how the bedroom tax saves little, will cost councils money they can't afford and the duplicitous behaviour of Labour.

some crazy shenanegins going on behind the scenes of the protest organisations - especially in Glasgow and London. Politicians can't help being bellends.

I read that the organisers were going to quit because various political parties have been trying to take over.  Also saw the SSP are quite angry at any attempts by the Labour party to claim any credit for taking part.

Any other shit?

the west of scotland organisers were seemingly all forced out by tommy sheridan. now all parties have accepted there will be no politicians speaking at the main event in glasgow - except the snp, who demand to be given a more prominent platform.

in london, the page organising the demo was mysteriously shut down by facebook, then swiftly replaced by a page created by Labour Left.

it's a shame that it's being hijacked but not surprising.

How did they manage to have just the SNP speaking? Labour must be going mental.

And does Tommy still count as a politician?

EDIT: ah I see I misread what you meant, no politicans allowed, everyone agrees but SNP in a huff. Got you.

tommy seems to be trying to use this as a vehicle to put him back in the game. pretty depressing that he still has hangers-on doing his bidding.

would also like to have seen every city pick the same date so that media couldn't ignore it (he says knowing full well they'd ignore it anyway. cunts)

Most of the demos I have been on in the past - Labour were always down the front drowning people in banners, and I have seen the SSP guys having a scrap with them over it.

I dont think the government have admitted it but the number of single bed homes is no-where near enough to accommodate the people on benefits who live alone. Most councils when building accommodation didnt build single bedroom homes as it is makes sense to make homes with at least two bedrooms for flexibility.

The government will never admit that because it would undermine so many local authority planning policies (even though it would actually be a great get out clause and potential for mudslinging in non tory council areas

Glasgow for example: 5 years ago you could take an office housed in a 5 storey former townhouse and convert it into as many flats as you could fit. Now they will only allow a max of 3 and will push you to actually make the townhouse into one massive unit.

We have had several applications rejected for one bedroom houses & flats across scotland because the local planning policy was to attract families etc.

And of course all those social houses they say they want built? well a one bedroom house or flat isn't worth as much as a 2 Bedroom so developers aren't so keen on them it reduces their opportunities to make cash.
