ABERDEEN FC boss Derek McInnes today confirmed he has received reassurances that the Pittodrie pitch will be in pristine condition for next season.

 

McInnes delivered a damning verdict on the standard of training facilities available to his players by arranging access to the Albyn School complex at Milltimber days after he took charge at the club.

 

McInnes said: “The club are well aware that improvements need to be done to the pitch and are working on it.

 

But will they play rugby on the park again next Autumn?

Aye it's always after the shite rugby and an international game on it then it turns into  midden for a few months. The worst state I have ever seen the pitch in was the 4-4 game with Celtic, absolutely atrocious. I mind (quite rightly) Robbie Keane complaining about it.

Aberdeen have announced that their Pittodrie pitch is to be given a major upgrade this summer.

The current sand-based surface will be modified to include fibresand which it is hoped will herald a surface more conducive to passing football.

There will also be an improved sprinkler system and manager Derek McInnes said: "As has been the case with many pitches throughout the country, since the turn of the year the surface has been a major concern.

"The club has recognised this and has taken the best advice possible in order to have a better playing surface which will improve the product for the fans."

Groundsman Paul Fiske added: "The current surface is eight years old and has served us well, as we've never had a game postponed.

"However, this season we saw three inches of rain on the day of the St. Johnstone match in December and that caused the most damage."

"The laying of a Fibresand reinforced pitch will prevent it from breaking up and causing bobbles and while, come February, aesthetically it may look a bit thin, it will not cut up in the manner of the current surface."

The work will see the new surface ready in approximately two months.
