Pre-Season Friendly | Buckie Thistle v Aberdeen | Tuesday 9th July 2013

Testimonial for Kevin Main

Aberdeen's first team will play their first pre-season match at Victoria Park, Buckie next Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm) as they pay their respects to Buckie Thistle's goalkeeper Kevin Main.

Kevin, who is an Aberdeen fan, joined the Jags from Lossiemouth in the summer of 2003 and since then has gone on to gain legendary status at Victoria Park. Last season he marked his 350th appearance for the club in the league match against Inverurie Locos at Harlaw Park and he marked that milestone with another terrific display.

One of his finest performances came last season at Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup when a breathtaking display, that featured world class saves, inspired his team to a 2-1 win, the club's first success at a Scottish League ground in the national competition since 1956.

In 363 appearances for the club he has amassed an impressive 122 clean sheets.

Last season he won a host of Player of the Year awards including the Players Player of the Year Award and he was also a close third in the Highland League Player of the Year awards - a fine achievement for a player from a team who finished 12th in the Highland League table.

In an outstanding career he is one of a handful of players who have won every major north honour: whilst at Lossiemouth he won two North of Scotland Cup winners medals. At Buckie he has won the coveted Highland League and when they won the title for the first time in 52 years in 2009-10 he kept 6 clean sheets in a row in the final six games. Also at Victoria Park he has picked up winners medals in the Aberdeenshire Cup (twice), Highland League Cup (once) and Aberdeenshire Shield (once) and it was in the Highland League Cup Final against Cove Rangers in May last year that he completed his set.

As this game will pay due honour to one of the Highland League best ever keepers, allied to the fact that the Dons could well field a lot of their new signings, it is expected that there will be a large crowd at Victoria Park next Tuesday evening.

Information for the Red Army For Aberdeen fans living in the area tickets can be bought for £10 (adults) and £5 (concessions) at Slater Sports in Buckie, Lossiemouth FC social club and Hopeman Golf Club as well as the Harbour Inn and Commercial Hotel in Burghead.

Fans travelling from Aberdeen will be able to pay at the gates (again prices at £10 and £5) on the night but as this is a Highland League ground there are a limited amount of turnstiles so as ever we would recommend you try and get there as early as possible to avoid queuing.

There is parking available on the side streets around the ground and a special programme is available for £2.
