Sam Roscoe seems to be getting a lot of plaudits after the weekends game against Inverurie Locos.  Anyone head along to it?  Seems like a lot of clubs were after him at the end of the season.

Currently losing 7 (seven) - 0 to Murderwell  :o :o :o

This is the team:

Craddock, Omolukun, Robertson, Storie, Roscoe, MacPherson, Wright, Anderson, Dangana, F Ross, Norris

Edit: Finished 9 (NINE) - 1?!?!?

That score is a worry.  Two first team squad players (albeit with no chance of real game time!) against a Motherwell team with no overage players and average age of 17.  Something not right there.  Given the poor record of developing players who make it into the first team over quite a few years now you would hope serious questions are being asked as to whether the set up is fit for purpose.  Certainly the oft repeated phrase about needing to develop our own players has not happened to any great degree.  I wonder if young players see Aberdeen as a poor choice with McInnes in charge given lack of opportunity, but also we appear to sign far more young cast offs these days.

Unacceptable result, no matter if it's 1st Team or Under 20's! Did we not win the Under 20's League last season?

2 seasons ago.

A few of the players from that title winning squad are no longer with us & one or two of present squad are out on loan.

Still no excuse for this shocker of a scoreline though, been some poor scores for the U20s this season.

End of the road for Sheerin  ?

Bin the youth system doesnt fucking provide any players with nous, heart nor the correct mentality, bin Sheerin as well and spend the money on the first team.

A failing of the u-20 set up rather than Paul Sheerin.  The reserve league used to provide younger players with nous as they were playing against older, more experienced players more often, thus preparing them for first team football.

All that happens now is that the boys are playing against the same players they've always played against, by and large. At some point, that isn't going to teach you anything new, and if/when you get into the first team, too much of it is too new and for certain players, its too much for them and they can't cope. The base skills may be there, but there's too much of a gap in "nous" between them and their colleagues and opponents.

I went along to Aberdeen v Hamilton u-20s two seasons ago at New Douglas Park. We lost 4-1 or 4-2. Shankland and Brophy were the outstanding players on the park. In fact, Shankland's all round display was fantastic, scored a cracking goal, held the ball up superbly and he looked like the 6th year playing against the 1st year kids.

Gets into the first team at the Dons and it looks as though he's hardly kicked a ball in his life and is now struggling to get a start at a horrendous St Mirren team.  A lot of that must be down to the lack of a proper first team preparation.

It's no coincidence either that the majority of that league winning side are no longer at Pittodrie. A lot of those boys were coming on for 20, so they either have to go into the first team squad or be released. A few of them in the days of the reserve league would probably have been kept on to see how they progressed, but the club then has a snap decision to make.  The whole system is flawed from start to finish.
