Aberdeen defender Mark Reynolds has said he won't get carried away with talk of a wide open League Cup, admitting that could lead to an upset.

The Dons thumped Falkirk 5-0 to reach the quarter-finals and with favourites Celtic out, talk has centred on who is now best placed to pick up the first silverware of the season.

Reynolds refused to get carried away, insisting that looking too far ahead could be damaging.

"I think the same thing happened a couple of years ago when Celtic went out, we all started looking ahead and we got put out next round," he said.

"It’s just not something you can do because cup competition is special.

"It just comes down to who the better player on the day is. It doesn’t matter about form or how you’re doing, the winner on the day progresses.

"When you start looking ahead of yourself in competitions and looking at Hampden, that’s when you trip yourselves up."

Speaking ahead of the draw, the defender said the old adage of taking one game at a time applied.

"Certainly from our point of view we’ll see who we get and just take it from there," he added.

"We’ll just be trying to beat whoever we get in the next round and that’s as far as you can take it as a player."
