The Human League look set to claim their first Top 10 single in nearly 20 years this weekend.

The English group’s 1981 single, Don’t You Want Me, is being propelled up the Official Singles Chart thanks to a social media campaign by fans of Aberdeen Football Club following their Scottish League Cup win on Sunday (March 16). The track is popular with the club’s supporters, who are known to change the lyrics to the chorus to “Peter Pawlett, baby” after midfielder Peter Pawlett.

Don’t You Want Me, which is the UK's 24th biggest selling single of all-time, re-entered the Official Singles Chart midweeks at Number 21 yesterday (March 19). According to the Official Charts Company’s latest sales data, it has climbed a further nine places overnight, and is currently at Number 12. Should its current sales momentum continue, Don’t You Want Me will be The Human League’s first Top 10 single since Tell me When, which peaked at Number 6 in January 1995.

The founder of the campaign's Facebook page, Richard Albiston, commented on the campaign's success so far, "I think it's phenomenal and shows the power of social media! The page was set up as a bit of fun, I never expected it to take off as much as it has!"

Don’t You Want Me’s final Official Singles Chart placing will be revealed on Sunday (March 23) between 4 and 7pm on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart show with Jameela Jamil and on www.officialcharts.com.
