BigAl Posted June 17, 2014 Report Posted June 17, 2014 Richard Gordon's new book is 99p on Kindle today. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scotland-74-World-Cup-Story-ebook/dp/B00I7JD0B2/ref=tmm_kin_title_0 As one old enough to remember '74 World Cup and all the characters involved, I'd just like to say it was a cracking read. Might not be so interesting for those not around at the time of it happening Quote
BigAl Posted June 17, 2014 Report Posted June 17, 2014 Terry Hayes - I Am Pilgrim 500 pages into it, still got another 350 pages to go, but so far it is shaping up as a five star Quote
scotfree Posted June 17, 2014 Report Posted June 17, 2014 Terry Hayes - I Am Pilgrim 500 pages into it, still got another 350 pages to go, but so far it is shaping up as a five star I will have to give that a try. Reading about the American Civil War at the moment. What a weird and horrendous war that was. Quote
scotfree Posted June 18, 2014 Report Posted June 18, 2014 Terry Hayes - I Am Pilgrim 500 pages into it, still got another 350 pages to go, but so far it is shaping up as a five star Just bought it. Better be fucking good. Quote
BigAl Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 Just bought it. Better be fucking good. You started on it yet ? I finished a few days ago. Cracking read, got film written all over it. If I'm being critical, possibly a little too long, and have to say that the ending was a little bit disappointing in comparison to what had gone before it. Quote
BigAl Posted August 20, 2014 Report Posted August 20, 2014 Just bought it. Better be fucking good. Well ? Quote
scotfree Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 No even started it yet! My book list at the moment is rather huge. I will give it ago once I finish my book on the Russian revolution. Quote
scotfree Posted August 30, 2014 Report Posted August 30, 2014 Halfway through it Al. Yep, a five star book so far. Best fiction book I've read this year. Quote
Drewsome Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Time for a Daddy Moment. Reading Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew series with my 6 yearold. Won't be long and she'll not need my help. Quote
BigAl Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 In Plain Sight, The Life & Lies of Jimmy Saville. Words totally fail me as to just how he got away with it for so long given the number of unconnected reporting of his wrong doing the lenght and breadth of the country and over such a long period of time. Quote
scotfree Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 I started that book, Al. Had to stop a third of the way through. Realy grim stuff. Quote
BigAl Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 I started that book, Al. Had to stop a third of the way through. Realy grim stuff. Grim as in what that prick got away but I am three quartets of the way though it and I would say that I am pleased that there is no graphic detailed description of his crimes. Quote
scotfree Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 Finished the John Burridge auto, What a fuck tart that man is. If you were to believe him, he is the father of all that is modern football. Quote
Kowalski Posted October 30, 2014 Author Report Posted October 30, 2014 Currently reading Bernard Sumner's autobiography. Interesting stuff as he's a fairly private man normally. I'm looking forward to reading what he's got to say about Peter Hook! Quote
scotfree Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 Reading "Hardcase McDougal and the Huge Fucking Mystery" by Keith Blackwater. I have to honestly say I've never read a book like this one before. Not for the easy offended but funny as fuck. Well worth a read. Quote
BigAl Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 In The Heart Of The Sea - Nathaniel Philbrick The true story that inspired Moby Dick. 70% or so into it and living it. Great read Quote

Goldie03 Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 Talking of books & films I'm reading Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy as the film comes out in May I haven't read a great deal of classics but this one is quite enjoyable so far Canny make up my mind if I'm gonna ever get a kindle - using my daughter's for this one but think I will always prefer actual books Quote
BigAl Posted March 23, 2015 Report Posted March 23, 2015 Canny make up my mind if I'm gonna ever get a kindle - using my daughter's for this one but think I will always prefer actual books I got one pretty much as soon as they were launched years ago. More and more however I am finding myself gravitating back to the good old paperback. Just started on Mark Billingham's latest DC Thorne book Quote
Stupie82 Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 Micheal Dobbs - 1 Minute to Midnight. A good read and frightening. I wasnt around during the 60's but the book gave me an insight into the thoughts and minds of Khrushchev, Kenndedy and the world at that time. Quote

Stupie82 Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 If that had gone wrong I wouldn't have seen my first birthday. After reading that book im actually amazed how close it came to happening. I have watched movies and read articles, but none of them actually described the situation as it was at the time. Not sure how the world would react to such a situation in modern times, but the doomsday clock would have us believe its still a very real possibility. Quote

Am I right in thinking it was Michael Dobbs that wrote "House of Cards" that is on Netflix ? Quote
