They had Houston and Rogers on STV News last night, basically Houston said he has a good relationship with McInnes and he would not want to ruin that by holding on to Rogers if we want him back.

Rogers said he would be happy to come back if he was to get first team football.

Whilst it's obviously disappointing to lose the first competent keeper we've had in a generation I can't help but see it from a grown up point of view.

We loaned Rodgers to Falkirk and by all accounts he's been doing ok. Not setting the heather alight but doing ok.

Liverpool loaned Ward to us and he quickly become a fan favourite and been one of (if not the) stand out players for us this season.

If we had an injury crisis in the goalkeeping dept or if our keepers badly lost form (as has happened at Liverpool) would you not expect to be able to fall back on one of your own players who's on good form even if the circumstances and timing aren't great? Of course you would. You can call Liverpool cunts for a lot of things (probably) but, to be fair, recalling their own player in their current circumstances isn't one of them.

Now we need to address the goalkeeping position long term. Although I appreciate that's harder to do in January. I'd be happy to take Rodgers back and give him a chance in the 1st team (now that the season is over :) ) and that gives him until the summer to prove to us that he's good enough. If he's not we need a long term (ie not a loan player) replacement in the summer. Who that would be? No idea. Haven't seen enough of any other keepers already mentioned to form a proper opinion.

I would have though the best option would be to call back Rogers and use him and Brown to the end of the season, heck Rogers may come in and make the No 1 jersey his own for all we know.

Then surely we could use any wages freed up to try and strengthen the outfield, preferably midfield.

I think it's more the way it's been done. Just a couple of weeks after Klopp has told DM that we can have Ward for the rest of the season he goes back on his word. He doesn't have an injury crisis - the fact is that he's just realised that Bogdan is shite. Seems strange that it's taken him this long.

To mess up the plans for another club after you have given them assurances isn't really a grown up thing to do.

But it is what it is and we'll just have to get on with it.

Mignolet is injured though is he not? If injuries occur after you've agreed to let certain loan players stay on loan then that's just unfortunate.

One injury hardly constitutes an emergency, particularly for a club the size of Liverpool surely?

Rumblings we are sniffing about Cammy Bell.... assume club has just given up any hope of challenging Celtic, the lack of ambition is appalling, if Mcinnes rates Bell he needs a long fucking hard look at himself

Cammy Bell isn't completely shite, but he's no better than Brown. He obviously has no inclination to play Rogers. I'd hate to see him take Rogers back to sit on the bench though, so if he doesn't feel Rogers is ready then I understand the attempted loan move. Obviously that means we ditch Rogers in the summer I'd hope, as if he's not good enough now then he won't be next season. like tlg, I'd like to see him be given an opportunity. It's difficult to tell if the predicament of McInnes' ridiculously cautious approach to games, or if he really doesn't rate Rogers.

Surely the way McInnes responds to the now goalkeeping crisis signals our intent for the rest of the season - if we are serious about challenging Celtic as far as we can then we have to be putting in a bid to sign a goalie permanently and not some dodgy loan deal for a guy warming a bench

If Rogers is not ready to step up and the jury seems to be out on that at the moment - I have no idea cause have never seen him play - then stop fannying about and make a real move to get a goalie in before the weekend

Liverpool have been quite unsporting no matter what Tyrant their no 1 fan says but it is the way we deal with it that is gonna ensure where we finish in the league - if we try to skimp on a goalie we've had it and the fans' patience is gonna wear thin

- if we try to skimp on a goalie we've had it and the fans' patience is gonna wear thin

The chairman knows that the "patience" of the fans is there. In fact he banks on it and has banked on it.

Nobody has the stomach to challenge the chairman. Irrespective of whether action is mounted or not, what's incredible to me is that some actually believe that Milne is "a fan" and has genuine intentions for our club. Like the foreign policies that are pursued in our name and the gross extortion of public funds by corrupt governments through the corporotocracy and the industrial war complex, people's incredulity (and stupidity) is masking the big picture.

It was Hitler who said that, although he expressed it differently i.e. small lies, big lies.

Ward never let in a goal as bad as Mignolet did today the first v. Sunderland.

Matter of time before he gets his chance.

Not that some supposedly knowledgeable Aberdeen fans know what day of the week it is.

That was an absolute shocker, and yet they've just given him a new contract. Bizarre. Can't be long before Ward is given his chance.

We really missed him yesterday.

Interesting stats (this season) from the latest BTM podcast.

Ward - no goals conceded beyond the 75th minute

Brown - 4/6 goals conceded have been scored post the 75th minute

Are the defence not as confident without Ward between the sticks?  I know it's not really worth dwelling on what was and it can't all be laid at the feet of Brown, but the stats don't lie.

Danny Rogers offered a new deal from the Dons.

I thought that might happen after DM's interview last week. Good news, hopefully the boy grabs the opportunity!

Edit: where have you heard / seen this?  Nothing official yet?

Edit 2: Just seen it on the Sun

I'd heard we were in advanced talks with another keeper to be our first choice next season.  I wonder if either that has fallen through, or if it's been agreed therefore being able to know the remaining GK budget to offer to Rogers...

I don't know who the other keeper was but I've reason to believe it to be true.  I had an inkling it might've been Cammy Bell...

Gads, I'd rather hae Rogers than Bell. F'n hun fuck. Worse than Alexander (other ex'hun fuck) too. I'd be surprised if Rogers accepted a new deal to be no 2, but good move for us if he is willing to. I'm assuming the other 'keepers are leaving then, which is good. I thought Marshall was only on a year's contract as coach too, so it'll be interesting to see if we hang onto him for the future.

Depends on if we'd be getting the reasonably solid/fairly cheap/on the fringes of the Scotland squad Bell or the injured/lacking match fitness/extortionately paid Bell.

If he proves his form and fitness, takes a huge pay cut and agrees to be thoroughly disinfected then he may be an ok option even as a solid number 2.

That's based on not seeing him play much at all since leaving Killie though so others may have a different opinion.

Personally, anyone that is willing to drop leagues for a better wage packet can fuck off. Not the level of professionalism we need at our club.  I'm not doubting his previous ability, i'm doubting his qualities as a human being.

I see your point and I agree to a certain extent... Saying that half our squad has done that at some point, McGinn and Rooney to name two. Slightly different admittedly but still dropping down a level to chase money. It's just the nature of football now sadly.

The fact Bell went to Rangers isn't enough to put me off totally, the question of whether he's good enough would though.

It'd be a shame if playing for them put people off someone who may (or may not) turn into a decent signing.

I meant to add, a Scotland international dropping down the leagues. I can understand if it is going to England because they are bigger leagues and a different challenge etc.  Probably still not the best career move, but more understandable than dropping the Scottish leagues (due to their part time nature).  That's not a slight against our game, but a statement of reality.  Much like with Wallace. Any of those pricks, let them suffer the consequences.  I just can't trust anyone that would do that.

Edit: Maybe it's just me and i'm being irrational, but that's how I feel about any player that's signed for them from the top tier.

Is it really fundamentally different to signing for a lower league team in England though? I'd say not.

It's still dropping down to a lower level of competition for more money.
