manc_don Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 Is it really fundamentally different to signing for a lower league team in England though? I'd say not. It's still dropping down to a lower level of competition for more money. it was why I mentioned the professional bit Quote
Jute Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 Is it really fundamentally different to signing for a lower league team in England though? I'd say not. It's still dropping down to a lower level of competition for more money. Yes. Even in the 4th division in England it's still full time professional league where as in the seaside leagues its part time teams and even an amateur side. There is a massive difference between the level of competition a player would be facing. Quote
RicoS321 Posted March 5, 2016 Report Posted March 5, 2016 Also, we're forgetting, Bell was a fairly average SPL 'keeper when he was at Killie. No better than Samson, McGovern etc. when they were performing at their best. It's just not worth the hassle, when half the fans - including me - will dislike him immediately for fucking off to play part-time football for his heroes. I would accept it if he made a statement saying that he was young stupid and took some bad advice, but I doubt he feels this way. Quote
manc_don Posted March 5, 2016 Report Posted March 5, 2016 I see according to BBC gossip we're vying with the newco hunnery for mcgovern Quote
BobbyBiscuit Posted March 5, 2016 Report Posted March 5, 2016 Don't like the idea of Bell at all. Wouldn't want us signing him because he's simply not very good and is the main player in the funniest thing I've ever seen on a football pitch - Motherwell's first goal at Fir Park in the play off last year. LA-Don Posted April 17, 2016 Report Posted April 17, 2016 And according to Klopp on bbc, "Danny Ward was brilliant." Quote
manc_don Posted April 17, 2016 Report Posted April 17, 2016 Glad to see he's finally got some game time. We have missed him. Big time. Quote
rocket_scientist Posted April 17, 2016 Report Posted April 17, 2016 Glad to see he's finally got some game time. We have missed him. Big time. I agree. Big time. But not according to some dickhead who got it into his thick head that he wasn't very good for us. He cited parrying the ball into opposition attackers as his rationale. Ward has been the best keeper at AFC this century. By miles. Only a fool couldn't see this. He only took his premier league debut to prove how ignorant this critic was. He was brilliant today. Quote
Edinburghdon Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 But not according to some dickhead who got it into his thick head that he wasn't very good for us. Nothing like twisting others words eh Rocket... If you're referring to me you've gone way off, which doesnt surprise me in the slightest based on your previous posts and all round attitude. I've never said he wasn't very good for us, only pointed out that his repeated mistakes were glossed over and some people have made him out to be better than he actually was. That's not to say he wasnt an improvement on any of his predecessors, he clearly was and that's something I've never denied. He cited parrying the ball into opposition attackers as his rationale. I mentioned that as an example of mistakes he consistently made, it was the failure to cut this out after 6 months with us that concerned me. If you cant quite grasp that or fail to see that it's a reasonable comment then fair enough, again I'm not surprised. Although as mentioned above and just to make absolutely sure you grasp this point (as it seems you're having trouble with it)... I've also said repeatedly that he was an improvement on what we've had. Ward has been the best keeper at AFC this century. By miles. Only a fool couldn't see this. That's your opinion, I'd say Kjaer was a more complete keeper but Ward certainly ran him very close. Saying he was the best by miles isn't accurate. He only took his premier league debut to prove how ignorant this critic was. He was brilliant today. I'll take your word for it, didn't see it. Good on him making his debut though. I'm also really glad you're reasoned enough not to write off different opinions to your own as ignorance though. Oh, wait... *DT Needs a facepalm smiley* *cue angry ranty bollocks* Quote
Tyrant Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 Not sure how we can know if Ward was "excellent" going by the BBC highlights. He made a couple of saves that you'd expect anyone to make and he got away with flapping impotently at a cross at one point. Unless you were at the game or watched an online stream and saw something that I didn't then I disagree. Quote

bloo_toon_red Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 This is good man-management by Klopp. Mignolet is in negative equity in terms of his blunders at Liverpool and by bigging up Ward in this way Klopp's laying down the gauntlet to Mignolet to prove to him he's got the bottle to hold off Ward's challenge. Ward will usurp Mignolet as Liverpool #1 within the next 18 months and go on to win 50+ caps for Wales in my opinion. He made mistakes for us that he managed to get away with, some of which down to lack of experience (poor positioning at free-kick v Caley away) and I tend to agree he's probably been our best keeper "this century", but let's not quibble here - that's not saying much is it? At the very least he was a safe pair of hands and showed what a confident man between the sticks can do for the back four as a unit when compared with the various predecessors. At best he was probably the second best keeper in the Premier League (no shame if Craig Gordon's the no1) and showed big maturity for such a young keeper. I hope he goes on to have a marvellous career and recognises it was his time with us that set it all up for him. Quote
LA-Don Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 I don't know if Ward was excellent, I was just passing on the Klopp quote from BBC. I'm assuming he saw the full game, not just the BBC highlights. Quote
scotfree Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 Danny getting a game against Swansea. Nice to see. Quote
manc_don Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 Going to Huddersfield town on loan. Horrible club. Quote
RicoS321 Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 Going to Huddersfield town on loan. Horrible club. Fit have they ever done to you? Quote
manc_don Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 Fit have they ever done to you? Never liked them. Probably because I had mates who were Wednesday / Bradford fans. Funny how they influence you Quote
RicoS321 Posted May 17, 2016 Report Posted May 17, 2016 Daily hun suggesting Ward might return for next season. That'd be fucking awesome. Quote
Tyrant Posted May 17, 2016 Report Posted May 17, 2016 Thought he'd already arranged a loan move for next season to somewhere in England? Quote
RicoS321 Posted May 17, 2016 Report Posted May 17, 2016 Thought he'd already arranged a loan move for next season to somewhere in England? Apparently only a move was made, not agreed. Liverpool have signed some other 'keeper today (I think today) which means the loan is now definitely happening, but no confirmation of the location, with Ward favouring the dons according to rumour. Would make sense for him. Why play for that shitehole when you can play in Europe. Would love to see him come back on the basis it was a proper season long loan. ED has already expressed his delight at the potential singing of his favourite song again. Would at least allow the club to put the keeper situation off for another year... Quote

Not sure what that would do to Rogers though... Quote
tlg1903 Posted May 17, 2016 Report Posted May 17, 2016 I'd rather go for mcgovern, I don't think there is much between the two them. He's free, he's at a great age for a goalie and he would be ours. Quote
