ADVICE FROM THE FOREIGN OFFICE

Passport validity and Visas

Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. You don't need any additional period of validity on your passport beyond this.

Crime

As with any city please beware of pickpockets, avoid unlit streets and parks at night, and be extra vigilant if walking alone. Please seek recommendations for bars and clubs from trustworthy sources like your hotel or other holidaymakers. When paying by credit or debit card make sure the transaction is completed in your presence and be wary of attempts to make you re-enter your pin number. Don't leave drinks unattended.

If you feel that you have been a victim call the Riga tourism police on +371 67181818, the Ventspils Police on +371 63 624 729 or the national police on 110.

Local laws and customs

Drinking alcohol in public is prohibited and may lead to detention and a financial penalty. Don't become involved with drugs. Possession of even very small quantities can lead to lengthy pre-trial detention and possible custodial sentences.

For identification purposes, you should carry a photocopy of your passport at all times. If possible, leave your passport and other important documents in hotel safes.

Health

If you're visiting Latvia you should get a free European Health Insurance Card before leaving the UK. The EHIC isn't a substitute for medical and travel insurance, but it entitles you to state provided medical treatment that may become necessary during your trip. Any treatment provided is on the same terms as Latvian nationals. If you don't have your EHIC with you or you've lost it, you can call the Department of Health Overseas Healthcare Team (+44 191 218 1999) to get a Provisional Replacement Certificate. The EHIC won't cover medical repatriation, ongoing medical treatment or non-urgent treatment, so you should make sure you have adequate travel insurance and accessible funds to cover the cost of any medical treatment and repatriation.

If you need emergency medical assistance during your trip, dial 113. If you are referred to a medical facility for treatment you should contact your insurance/medical assistance company immediately.

Money

The currency in Latvia is the Euro. All major credit cards are accepted and there are plenty of ATM machines for withdrawing local currency using Cirrus and credit cards.

Contact FCO Travel Advice Team

If you're in Latvia and you urgently need help (eg if you've been attacked, arrested or there has been a death), call 00 371 67774700. If you're in the UK and concerned about a British national in Latvia, call 020 7008 1500.

Just in case you were wondering, Callum Morris is injured.  Might start a vote on when Callum Morris WILL be fit  :-\

Defender Callum Morris will again miss out for Aberdeen as they prepare to face Latvians Ventspils in the Europa League qualifiers.

The former Dundee United is still short of fitness following an Achillies injury but boss Derek McInnes has an otherwise full-strength squad following the 3-0 first-leg win at Pittodrie.

Anybody know any pubs in Aberdeen that will have the match on tomorrow?

According to the EE:

With Aberdeen’s Europa League first round qualifier only available on Premier Sports, many fans have been wondering where they can watch the match.

The second leg against CS Fola Esch kicks off at 5.30pm, with coverage starting at 5.25pm.

International subscribers to RedTV can also watch the Dons online but for many, it will be a scramble to find a suitable pub.

Fortunately, we have compiled a list of city centre pubs that will be showing the game so you can still back the Reds from afar.

So how do we see us lining up tonight?  I don't think we can afford to take the risks like we did last time so probably a similar line up to last week.

Hoping for a 2-0 victory.  No fucking about and keep it nice and simple.  The job is nearly done!

Cracking strike by Jack off the bar, need more of this from him. Rooney correctly called offside on the follow up.

Lovely penalty save like, really good. Advantage of a big goalie is he really covered one side completely for the pen. Smartly up for the second save too, which he got a good leg on.

Taylor unlucky for the penalty, really should never have been given. Much like the Draper one from last season, but even more soft. Poor decision. He's looked pretty awful apart from that though. McLean needs to improve in the centre and we need more from Hayes, but we'll see it out comfortably. Hopefully see Stockley and Storey if they're on the bench.

Sounded like a very professional performance from the team and dm. Subs contributed and we're unlucky (from what I heard) not to score. Now to see where we end up!

Only concern, we really need a centre half, Taylor is a nightmare. How did Reynolds play? Brown seemed very pleased with his performance.
