A llad insane Posted October 7, 2016 Report Posted October 7, 2016 Who is your preferred c/b pairing for the Dons ? For me, Considine is a better c/b than l/b, Reynolds is quicker but too lightweight, Taylor is the biggest & does use his physique well & recently we have O'Connor slotted in there. Against the many hammer throwers we come up against should it be Considine /Taylor with O'Connor protecting them 'cos his distribution is pretty good. Thoughts ...... Quote
Edinburghdon Posted October 7, 2016 Report Posted October 7, 2016 I'd not have Taylor anywhere near the team, he's an accident waiting to happen. I'd have O'Connor first choice and see how he gets on with Reynolds. If they don't gel then give Considine a shot. Quote
topcorner Posted October 7, 2016 Report Posted October 7, 2016 If only we had 2 Andy Considines! Quote
wee toon red Posted October 7, 2016 Report Posted October 7, 2016 O'Connor and Reynolds for me, followed by O'Connor and Taylor. If I had any clue whatsoever about Morris' abilities then that could alter but since I don't, then it won't for the moment. I actually prefer Consi at left back and he doesn't seem to have the guaranteed-penalty-concession problem out there. Quote
1903_Redz Posted October 8, 2016 Report Posted October 8, 2016 It's a good question and probably one that has DM swithering at times. O'Connor is probably the most accomplished of them all at the mo but he's the one i'd like to see sitting in the holding role in midfield (IMO we only need one holding and two advanced midfielders - but that's a different topic). Consi, Big Ash and Reynolds all have their weeknesses although i like them all and they're all quite capable of putting in very good performances. If it were just 'who's the best CB pairing' i'd say O'Connor and Reynolds but if it was as part of a team selection i'd go with Ash and Renolds with AO'C protecting in midfield. Quote

manc_don Posted October 8, 2016 Report Posted October 8, 2016 If only we had 2 Andy Considines! We'd be in the championship by now I'd not have Taylor anywhere near the team, he's an accident waiting to happen. I'd have O'Connor first choice and see how he gets on with Reynolds. If they don't gel then give Considine a shot. This is the right answer, Taylor causes nothing but panic both to the team abd especially supporters! Of we had two O'Connors we'd be set for the season. One in defence and one in mid. Quote
MálagaSheep Posted October 8, 2016 Report Posted October 8, 2016 Oconner and Reynolds What a find Oconner has been, I also dont mind Big Ash. Quote
Goldie03 Posted October 8, 2016 Report Posted October 8, 2016 I'm not an Ash fan at all so O'Connor & Reynolds for me Tho after reading the other thread I want Consi in there too but would prefer Shinnie at left back so dilemma Quote
rocket_scientist Posted October 8, 2016 Report Posted October 8, 2016 Difficult question this one so a very good question. Reynolds' first season was superb but never been the same since his injury. He would still be my first pick but he's worrying prone to mistakes these days that I didn't think him capable of a couple of years ago. Taylor can be carthorse-like and solid within two minutes so never know what to expect. Overall, I don't mind him being in the starting XI. O'Connor can be similarly brilliant and dodgy so never know what we're going to get from him either. I've always liked Considine and when he was playing alongside Anderson, always thought he would grow into a good and natural CB. Successive managers never saw him in that role though so he never got the chance to play there often enough to build up any consistency of performance. Shinnie is the far superior LB. All four have weaknesses but there is no doubt that the centre of defence has been more than adequate by SFPL standards. It's just that the standard of our Premier League is shite and these four footballers are at their level with no chance of earning better money elsewhere. A club with ambition to win the league would be seeking to improve everywhere within the squad. Why Reynolds has regressed is my biggest concern. He's the only one for me at CB that historically looked good enough for a team that wanted to win stuff. Quote
thomsod Posted October 8, 2016 Report Posted October 8, 2016 Was Reynolds best period when he was beside Anderson? Has he always struggled beside someone else? Quote
A llad insane Posted October 8, 2016 Author Report Posted October 8, 2016 I agree Reynolds regression was surprising & baffling, he was different class in his 1st season. Considine seems to run with lead in his boots (since his last injury) & Taylors distribution will give somebody heart failure. They do all have good attributes though. Thing is, i think we need a settled back 4 as chopping & changing every week , wouldn't help. Quote
Ten Caat Posted October 8, 2016 Report Posted October 8, 2016 Ive been saying for 2 seasons now that Reynolds is just not physically up to being a central defender in the SPFL he is far too easily bullied and any pace he had when he first joined us has now gone. Id like to see O' Connor and Consi given a go as a pairing allowing Shnnie to play at left back, or, if he is needed in midfield, Reynolds to slot in a t left back where he would be less exposed to being bullied.
