Slicker is an interesting choice, had to think who he was and then I remembered that he had played for the U21's

He has actually played more matches for our national U21 team than he has played club first team football. Obviously viewed as one for the future. Is he now too old for the U21's and being integrated into full squad for experience ?

All our goalies are shite, Gordon aside, so he gets in by default. Always looked okay for the u21s when I've watched them. We should give him ten minutes when we're three up, just incase he turns into a world beater, as he was born in England.

Much as I understand your thinking here Rico, I'm afraid it is fundamentally flawed.

Exactly when the fuck do you think that Scotland will find themselves three up with ten minutes to go 😂

Showing my age here. Can someone post a link to the game, can’t seem to find it!

Might not be searchable until nearer the time, haven't checked yet. There won't be extensive pre and post match coverage.

Devlin snubbed again for the Tim reject.

Conway starting is interesting. Think he could do the business.

Crazy not to start devlin. Home game and he’s fit and on form. Nations league too, glorified friendly, when did ralston last play a full game or even decent minutes. Besides for Scotland??

ingrigued by Conway too, woukd be nice to have a decent striker. Dykes has done a decent job but not a natural scorer. A little surprised at mcginn but he’s been shit for Scotland of late and this line up has better natural shape.

Yes, I meant VPN required for @OrlandoDon because he's in the US. We don't need one in the UK. Did you manage to sort something OD?

Intriguing half. They played us off the park in the first 20 minutes, we couldn't get out of our half. We increased the movement in midfield and started to get back in it and put in a few dangerous balls. The red card may just have changed things for us though. It was probably a soft yellow, as he didn't come in with force, but from the ref's angle he's just seeing a guy go in around the knee and they can't have too many complaints. Great that we then got a goal kick a minute later when it was a corner too. The Israeli ref has been great for us. Great bunch of lads the Israelis.

Was it ever in any doubt

Massive three points

Aye, no bother. Unfortunately it's probably not a massive three points. Think we should have really been going all out for the second goal. Not being ahead in the head to head against Croatia pretty much rules out second place. Think this was our one opportunity to do it. Could see us beating Poland by a goal, but we're not going to be tanking them.

It doesn't take much these days, but I am confused.

In a head to head against Croatia it is one win each, both scoring two goals. How does that mean we can't finish ahead of them.

A Scotland 2-0 in Poland and Croatia losing 1-0 V Portugal would see both countries finish on seven points and goal difference of Scotland zero and Croatia -1

Would we not finish second on that basis Rico ?

Yeah BBC kept going on about needing the second goal and I was trying to figure out how that worked. Turns out they were wrong. Our head to head with Croatia is now 2-2 so it’s now down to goal difference. Still need a three goal swing but Croatia don’t have Modric for Portugal now so every chance they could get beaten by a few goals.

I didn't mean we couldn't do it, just that it's unlikely. I think our best chance of finishing second is by scoring another goal in a half we'd totally dominated against ten men. Go into the Poland game not having to worry about goal difference would have been one less thing to worry about, and in international football you have to take the chance when it presents itself or you'll probably miss out. I think we'll need to win by two goals in Poland now, as I don't think we can rely on Portugal to do the business. I just think that we're good enough to scrape a win, but not win by two, mainly because we don't really score many goals. It just gives us one more route to glorious failure, and I could well see us winning by one and Portugal winning by one. We had the opportunity to take one more factor out of play, but we chose to hold rather than gamble. I reckon Jimmy T would have gone straight for the jugular had it been the Dons.

I don’t disagree with that. It was frustrating to see how long Clarke waited to get the subs on after half time. Jimmy would have had a couple of attacking changes at half time. In my opinion, ultimately Clarke while a better than average manager is just not on the same level as Thelin.

Fair does Rico

I was reading your post at the same time as listening to them saying we couldn't finish ahead of Croatia because we didn't get a second and stupidly misread your post as being in agreement with this error

Unfortunately, it all appears set up for a classic glorious Scottish failure where we have the spoils in our grasp, just to have them snatched away in the 98th minute or so 🙄
