My question is, what creativity did Christie actually provide?  He was utter horse shit for a lot of last season. I was thoroughly disappointed with him, given how well he'd played previously.  I agree with the principle of buying someone who is young and exciting, despite his obvious skill I thought Christie lost the ball an awful lot, and held onto it far too long.

Bit harsh, agreed his game fell away when it was announced he was going back to the unwashed, but for a good while he was head & shoulders above anybody else in our team. I think , if we had him back here on a permanent deal i think his form/attitude would return.

It had fallen away way before that was announced.

Cracking player on his day, but we never saw his day enough since the turn of the year.  Don't think he'll be missed.

Going on that McGowan has liked Tweets about him signing for Hamilton, I would imagine that is his destination.

I think Dons fans looked too much into his Wiki page being altered to say he had signed for us, which can be done by anyone.

Rumours of Hayes coming back, it would only make sense if it is a permanent transfer, not another loan where he wouldn't be able to play against Celtic.

Just find it odd that they have announced players, even another 2 today, yet this one still hasn't been confirmed. Apparently he can play both Right Back & Left Back, exactly the type of covering player we need.

And regarding Hayes, my personal opinion is, first of all, yes, permanent deal please, and if he can rediscover even half of his form/goals/assists, he'd be very valuable, I can't see it happening though, he'll go to Preston, or some other club down south, on loan.

See Dylan McGeough has held talks with Soonderland, doubt very much we will be seeing him here. :frown:

If true, probably best we don’t. Without ever seeing him play, Gleeson has chosen to play here for 2 or more European games, a  challenge at top half of SPFL Premier table & a go at a couple of cups, from The Championship.

We are after Alex Schalk according to the Record

I don't get this (if true, obviously). Much like Tansey, he just doesn't fit into a McInnes team. He doesn't have the required attributes such as work-rate and positional awareness. He is of moderate pace. Like Greg Stewart, he's a player who will get us goals/points against the crapper teams, but won't do anything against the Tims or in Europe.

If he was being purchased as a decent squad wide player to replace Stewart, then I could see the benefit. However, he doesn't cover the ground required of a McInnes wide player so he can only be thought of as a striker. We need a striker, definitely, but it has to be one who can take us forward and bridge that gap between us and the tims (and huns with their latest signings). We already have 3 strikers who will work well against lower opposition (Cosgrove yet to prove that, but signs are decent). I don't think we need another.

Perhaps I'm missing something in his wide play that exists, but I don't see it. That's not to say he isn't skillful and talented, but just that he doesn't have what it takes to be the modern fitba'r fa's required to cover every inch of grass. I see him being another Tansey/Storey/Maynard* taking up a place in the squad that could be better filled.

*okay, nae quite Maynard

I'd agree with that, can't see much value in their squad at all. I'd have had Davies two seasons ago. Maybe, Keilor-Dunn in another season or two if he continues to improve. That's about it. Schalke would offer fuck all.

Cauley Woodrow on loan, allegedly, another we've been linked with in previous windows.

Didn't set the heather on fire while on loan at Bristol last season. Would rather we gave own youngsters game time than going in to loan markets again.

Agreed.

No problem with getting a proven older player in on loan but not so keen on loan deals for younger players.

Hector, Christie, Ward and Logan would be the others, with only one of those (so far) resulting in a succesful signing. Stewart was okay.

Overall we have a low success rate in the loan market compared to our (low) success in the general market. However, perhaps the cost of the mistake is a lot lower. Previous loan signings have little bearing on future loans however and, as long as we get the terms correct (unlike Ward) they should be utilised if they can give us a better quality of player. It's a gigantic "if" though. Last season, Stewart probably had less of an impact on Wright or Ross's game time than Maynard, so loan deals are not exclusively bad for youth development. Rather that we buy/loan any player as squad filler in positions where we have a youngster with potential to fill on an ad-hoc basis.

Shalk is decent, would be another option upfront, surprised we only seem to look in the over inflated championship compared with some other teams who look further afield.

Is our scouting network just down South ?  probably get better value for money in Eastern Europe or Scandinavia .

Don’t know how true it is but have heard It said McInnes is not keen on working with players from outside UK or Ireland.

Honestly, why do we need 4 forwards? I’d go with May Rooney and Cosgrove, and back up after that should be our youngsters. Priorities financially should be defenders and wide and central mids, the only exception if we are buying/signing a main #1 forward.

Two of those forwards can't score.

We absolutely should be looking for another striker.

Don’t disagree with that but surely we should be offloading a striker then? I’d rather we didn’t waste a wage for someone tonsit on the bench. Agree with LA , would prefer a youngster to do that.
