You're not kidding mate.

Young, single earning decent money, no ties, the best team we've ever had, following them everywhere.

Thought I'd seen it all as the 4th went in at Hampden '82.We'd just won the 'treble' in my lifetime ie the LC in '76,and the League in '80 and stuffing Rangers 4 - 1 for the Scottish cup.Unthinkable at that time with the stranglehold the OF had on fitba back then.

    Little did we know..... :o

Happy Gothenburg Day.

39 bloody years, what's more it's 9 bloody years since the piss up at the Pittodrie Bar to celebrate the 30 year anniversary.

No doubt I will end up watching The Glory of Gothenburg after watch a load of losers at Perth.

It'll send me to sleep with a smile.

Not into continuously mentioning something that happened 39 years ago as makes us a bit like Victims and their constant mentions of 1967, however, did like this which I was sent this morning.

It's the greatest day in the club's history - and is highly likely to remain so - and well within living memory for lots of people so there's absolutely no reason not to bring it up at every reasonable opportunity in my opinion.

Celtic bring up 67 in an entirely different way than we bring up 83 though.

We simply celebrate the club's greatest achievement. Which we absolutely should, every year.

Celtic fans on the other hand seem to think winning something 55 years ago is relevant today, using it to point score when people point out they were knocked out of three competitions this season before Christmas. They talk as if they're up there with Liverpool and Real Madrid, when in truth - for a club their size - they've had a pretty atrocious record in Europe since.

Heard this being discussed on a podcast today so I'll throw it out there and wait for the inevitable bile and hatred that comes after...........

If Rangers win the Europa League, does it eclipse Celtic's 1967 win and how do those compare to the Dons in 1983?

Just to add a bit to that, Celtic faced the following opposition in 1967, playing 9 games:

First round - Zurich (Switzerland), aggregate 5-0

Second round - Nantes (France), aggregate 6-2

Quarters - Vojvodina (Yugoslavia), aggregate 2-1

Semis - Dukla Prague (Czechoslovakia), aggregate 3-1

Final - Inter Milan (Italy) 2-1

Rangers faced the following teams this year playing 17 games:

Playoff - Alashkert (Armenia), aggregate 1-0

Group - Lyon (France) (1-1 and 2-0 loss)

Group - Sparta Prague (Czech) (1-0 loss and 2-0 win)

Group - Brondby (Denmark) (1-1 and 2-0 win)

Play off - Dortmund (Germany), aggregate 6-4

Round of 16 - Red Star Belgrade (Serbia), aggregate 3-2

Quarters - Braga (Portugal), aggregate 3-2

Semis - Leipzig (Germany), aggregate 3-2

Final - Frankfurt (Germany)

In 1983 we played 11 games facing:

First round - Sion (Switzerland), aggregate 11-1

Second round - Dinamo Tirana (Albania), aggregate 1-0

Third round - Lech Poznan (Poland), aggregate 3-0

Quarters - Bayern Munich (West Germany), aggregate 3-2

Semis - Waterschei (Belgium), aggregate 5-2

Final - Real Madrid (Spain) 2-1

Main difference is Victims and Dons were not knocked out of Europe while this is Tribute Acts second shot after being knocked out of Champions league by Malmö this season.

Quite simple.

Biggest competition: Celtic, European Cup

Biggest achievement: Aberdeen, ECWC.

I don't think anyone, even the staunchest Rangers fan, could reasonably argue winning the Europa League would be a bigger achievement than Aberdeen beat Bayern & Real Madrid to win in 83.

And that's IF they win. Frankfurt have had a pretty amazing run to the final themselves.

You're a lucky, lucky man to be old enough to have memories of those years.

Fantastic being there and I remember it like it was yesterday...although nowadays I have trouble remembering what I did yesterday.
